sometimes when i get a game it doesnt come with a .nds file instead it has a bunch of other files

has this ever happened to anyone else? or does anyone know what to do to make the game work on an r4?

you have to extract those files with a program like winrar or 7-zip.

Get 7-zip (free) and extract the .rar file, then you'll get your .nds file.

After installing 7-zip, right-click the .rar file and select 7-zip -> Extract here.

This might not help you but, on try pressing CTRL then clicking it. IIRC CTRL+click on Macs is equal to right clicking, unless you have the Mighty Mouse, then you already have a right mouse button (and 2 more IIRC)

You should be able to use UnRARX to extract the file. The first .rar file is the first par, so thats the one you should extract from (make sure all of the files are in the same place).

I don't use a mac, so I can't tell you how to use it, but it should be what you're looking for.
