    Hi,
I know most people's thing here isnt 360 but I felt asking it here.
I borrowed a Sony DRU-830A DVD-Writer from a friend and burnt some games at 2x with it but the problem is discs are kinda low burn quality, for example, after finishing Chapter 3 of Gears of War, it says that disc is unreadable, take it out and clean it, not to mention that it doesnt even have one scratch. Or in Splinter Cell : DA it takes too much at its loading screens (loading the menus) and even music stops at one point and its trying so hard with making a lot of noise to read the disc (I think that noise is normal with BenQ but I'm a little afraid when playing Splinter Cell, cuz of that noise and being taking so long).
Also Condemned1 made me stop at chapter 6 but I managed to skip that chapter and rest of the game was fine and I finished it.

SO, my question is that do you think by upgrading its firmware my problem will be solved?
I had to ask it before since dual layer discs are so expensive here.

BTW, the discs I used is a DVD+R T-Gate and my drive is BenQ.

    EDIT:
I went to a drive site and found this under firmware update:

"Reliability improvements with 8cm DVD-R DL."

Does that mean it will fix the problem? [IMG] ? but I'm burning on DVD+R discs, could this fix that too?
BTW, what does "reliability improvement" mean? a fix? huh? aha!

    Companion cube?

You mean a firmware update for the writer? I don't think DVD-R discs work on 360s though.

I'd blame the media, not the writer. If you get cheaper ones the consequences outdamage the price difference.
Verbatim recommended, doesn't matter whether it's made in India or Singapore both are decent quality.

Also if your writer supports x1 burn speed, try that? It'll take like an hour to burn, but there's a chance of getting better reliability out of your T-Gate media.

    it said DVD-R DL.

my question was does this update affects burning DVD+R DL discs or not.

    Yeah, I meant DVD-R DL.
My guess is no, but firmware update can't hurt.

Benq is known to have problem with reading backups.

    Samsung MS28 is much better.

    First of all. 2X !?
    Are you crazy ?
I burn games at 8x and they work fine , although I had to burn DMC4 at 4x because the 8x was a bad copy.

Get better discs. I'm using cheap ones but they are great combined with a BENQ.
They are INTENSO DVD+R DL 8X btw.
They cost like 12€ for 5 disk (could be more but I already burnt some so I don't know how much where in the package)

yeah you can't use dvd-r dl because you can't set the layerbreak on -r
you have to use +r and set the layerbreak to 1913760 or open the .dvd file with imgburn

this is probably why they stop working at the "middle"/halfway through the game [IMG]

and like dominik said, burn faster. i've actually had games not work from burning slow (orange box in particular) despite everyone saying to burn slow.

360 games need to be played on dual layered discs.

Get some good dual layered discs. DVD+R DL ones. If you're system is connected to Xbox Live, prepare for it to get banned.

I use MBI DVD+R DL 8x Glossy Hub Printable discs... It's around $85 for a spindle of 40, but they're worth it, and work perfectly in the 360. Always burned at 8X in my Samsung Super Writemaster drive.

Only if you run bad copies that somehow get passed by ixtreme.

people, there is a misunderstanding here!
let me clear it, ...,ok its cleaner now! lol.

The problem was me burning games on DVD+R DL at 2x (which everyone is doing here) but the games are faulty so I decided to upgrade my burner's firmware but in its firmware log it said that they increased reliability over DVD-R DL and I was asking if they increased performance on DVD-R DL would affect burning DVD+R DL.

    ok, does it?
