Hi all, I've been having trouble installing Priiloader. I've had this Wii for a long time and it was softmodded a long time ago. I decided recently to perform a factory reset to get a fresh start, since there was a bunch of garbage on there that I didn't want/need anymore. The factory reset did not get rid of the custom menu theme I had installed on there, but installing the homebrew channel/cIOS worked just fine anyway. The problem came when I tried to install Priiloader, at which point it said that the system menu was invalid. After performing a syscheck, it indicated that I already had Priiloader installed, but when I booted it up, it was an older version (0.7). I decided at that point to just deal with having an older version.

However, I wanted to use some hacks with Priiloader (specifically region un-blocking) with Priiloader. Priiloader said that it could not find hacks_hash.ini, even though it was in both the Priiloader app folder and the root of my SD card. I decided then to uninstall this old version and get a new version (I can't update it since I'm not in a position to connect my Wii to the Internet right now). I was able to uninstall just fine, but I couldn't reinstall a new version, since I got the same error as before (sytem menu invalid).

From there, I decided to install a clean version of the system menu (4.1u), which I understand is risky without Priiloader, but it went fine and everything seems normal. I tried to install Priiloader again, but it gave me a new error, saying that it is "Unable to move the System Menu (error code -106)" and tells me to exit. I tried to reinstall cIOS (the four that the wii hacking guide says to), but that didn't seem to help. I also tried performing another syscheck and fed it to Modmii to see if I was missing anything, and it gave me files to place on my SD card and said to install Priiloader, but that didn't do anything either. Is there any way for me to install Priiloader from here? Are the cIOS's maybe the problem? I can clarify anything if need be.

Can you double check the priiloader installer meta.xml, maybe pasting the contents here?

Also if u are able to get a dump of the system menu tmd as it stands now it may prove helpful if later we bring in the big guns to troubleshoot (DacoTaco)

Where did u get your vanilla system menu from?

I got some other more extreme ideas to try, but let's start here

I got the system menu from NUSDownloader (NUSD-Mod-NUS-Fix, to be exact). I'm not sure how to dump the metadata, but I did find a file called tmd.449 in the title folder for the system menu I grabbed. Seems like I can't just upload that, though.

Here's the meta.xml from priiloader:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>
<app version="1">
<name>Priiloader Installer</name>
<coder>DacoTaco</coder>
<version>0.10.0</version>
<release_date>20230909135633</release_date>
<short_description>Preloader Mod</short_description>
<long_description>Priiloader is the follow up from Crediar's Preloader.
This Installer can install or remove a priiloader installation. After installation you can access Priiloader by holding the Reset button as you power on your Wii.
Priiloader is an app that replaces the first part of the System Menu that gets booted. This allows it to load before the actual Wii Menu.

WARNING: If you update, install or uninstall any System Menu it REMOVES Priiloader and you should reinstall it immediately to stay protected.</long_description>
<no_ios_reload/>
</app>

Quick Follow-up:

I did try to reset the wii to stock by getting a clean NAND and dumping it. However, when I went to restore the NAND back on the wii, i didn't have bootmii on boot2, which I understand makes things risky. I guess my wii is not old enough to actually do this, since I can only install bootmii to IOS. bootmii said to do the konami code to restore the NAND anyway, but everytime I made an input, it printed: "nice try, hajimoto-san!" or something like that and even when I completed the code, nothing happened.

All of this is to say that if one of our nuclear options is to clear the wii of homebrew entirely and start from scratch, that may be more complicated than anticipated.

When u say u dumped a clean nand, can u elaborate? Did u use ohneschwanzenegger? Also, are u sure you entered the Konami code correctly? If u did, it should have proceeded with a nand restore (assuming the nand is built for the same console)
Yeah, I followed this guide:
I did input the Konami code correctly, but still no dice. I've heard that I need to hold the buttons longer, though, so maybe I'll try that.

I also did try your ModMii Syscheck updater again, and I installed the IOSs it gave me. I have a new error now: "Priiloader failed to receive Nand permission: IOS36 is unpatched". Is there anything I can do about this or should I proceed with trying to dump a clean NAND again?

"Priiloader failed to receive Nand permission: IOS36 is unpatched".
U sure you're running the latest Modmii and priiloader installer? The latest priiloader doesn't want any IOSs patched. Also your hbc and thus the priiloader installer should be running off of IOS58

And what u did previously was just a format, not a true nuclear virginization. The full nuclear option would be following these steps https://wii.hacks.guide/wii-factory-reset.html then resoftmodding

Everything is totally up to date. I'll follow that guide and see how that goes.

that error generally means old HBC (that doesnt do AHBPROT), wrong meta.xml or it had a huge patching failure with the running ios

@op you sure you are running hbc 1.1.2 or higher under IOS58, and that u are running the latest priiloader installer with accurate meta.xml? If u have apps on sd and usb make sure both have been updated (or ensure you're launching the updated one by removing the device where its potentially outdated)

Edit: I would check all this before proceeding to virginize with ohneschwanzenegger

Well everything except that, obviously. But I can't update to 4.3 without Priiloader. And I do not have Priiloader installed. Because I was unable to install it. Which is the point of this thread.

4.3 adds nothing to 4.1 but failed anti homebrew attempts
The point is: when you say totally up to date... but then when some one point out something, you add an exception, who knows what other exceptions are not being mentioned...
And you DON'T need priiloader to update to 4.3, just use modmii and all set
