For those of us who actually buy our games, what can we do to keep new retail games from updating our wii and killing our homebrew?

block the mac address for the wii in your router would stop it for sure.... but i'm not sure how much help that would do since some hacks need internet access too...

Hmmm... I see a downgrade to 3.2 will be in order... Will it affect anything I already have installed?

It would be wise to downgrade and install starfall but you can get gecko os running on any fw.

If you want to just launch stuff from the disc channel, starfall is the way to go. I am on 3.2u with the ios50/shopchannel update and the mii channel update, animal crossing works, sonic unleashed works, theres no need to upgrade to get thinkgs working

There are also newer modchips as an option. Any that can be configured to allow own region, all regions or no updates, can be used. WiiKey2 is a good one for that. This will work from any system menu, even the ones that starfall does not work on.
