Gaming Preserving DS saves with the DLC flags unlocked

Anyone with a wired ethernet connection:
Please download as much packets as possible using this build of DesMume for all of the games listed in the first post:

So you know Nintendo is shutting down their online services for the Nintendo DS, DSi (and the Wii) in May 30. Hence lots of games will have such options as online multiplayer and additional content lost forever.

There are lots of games which have some content accessible only after connecting to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. For example, Dragon Quest IX, Solatorobo (PAL) and Ninokuni DS have additional quests and monster encounters only accessible this way, all Professor Layton games have interesting weekly puzzles to download (35, 52 in Japanese versions).
The game connects to the Nintendo servers and download a tiny key that changes a flag (often a simple byte) to unlock said content, which is stored all along in the DS card. Of course, there are exceptions, like Jam With the Band (DS), Samba de Amigo (Wii), which download instead new songs, not really worth sharing here.

While some may argue this kind of content may be made accessible with cheat codes, the interest simply isn't there, and many of these are simply too obscure for that to happen.
All we have are three incomplete cheats for only american copies of the first four Layton games (not even the Japanese/Korean ones with the 52 puzzles).

Since sharing save files is okay here, I'm hereby creating this thread, aiming to preserve saves with those single byte flags unlocked. which have as much possible content that's exclusive to downloadable services, which is also as close as possible to a clean save.

Feel free to suggest adding any new games to this incomplete list. Any game that has the WFC option which unlocks something in the game has its place here.
Aiming at making a comprehensive list with saves for each and every region (for example, Layton games will have each all JP, KR, US, UK, FR, SP, IT, GE versions)

If you can, share DS files with as much content unlocked and as little story/main game progression as possible.
Saves for similar DSiWare games with additional content, even if they may seem useless for now, are okay to share as well.

Well, a lot of unlockable content will be inaccessible forever for these games.
This is the only mean of preserving it. Anything will do, especially Japanese-only stuff.
Whenever you load a save, you'll find the downloadable content already unlocked.

Can't many of these be done through using cheats to unlock them? I know the Layton games have cheats that let you unlock all daily puzzles.

The cheats exist only for the Layton games (and not even all versions). There are none for other games.
And those cheats were made in the first place using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Meaning that everything needing to be unlocked that way would be lost forever unless heavy restoration hacking is done for these games, kind of like with Satellaview games. It's unlikely this will ever be done except for a select ones (BS Famicom Tantei, BS Fire Emblem... are still not restored after all those years for example).
It's necessary to gather as much saves with unlocked stuff for as much games and regions.. or else they are done for. The content likely to be lost this way is in no way negligible.

This sounds like a great idea and I will be happy to contribute.

But which DLC exactly do you want to see unlocked in the Pokemon games? Events like Victini? AFAIK there is not enough space for all event wondercards to be saved in a single save game.
Same for Mario Kart. It was just the online driving.

If there's not enough space, you could upload two separate files with their separate set of unlocked stuff.
I'd appreciate as much regions as possible.
Even the minor stuff like bonus items/characters are worth it, hence a save for Mario Kart would have the only thing unlockable through WFC, aka Shyguy. And the one for Phantom Hourglass would have the Golden parts unlocked and little else as far as the main game goes. I know there's a code for him, but a save file would be very useful to determine the flag position for its unlocking.

There's apparently an Australian release, too. But I can't find a ROM for it anywhere, and I'm not sure it would have any unique puzzles available, anyways.

The overwhelming majority of these games don't have such cheats for the downloadable content.

I just wanted to mention that the inn guests and dlc quests can be activated in Dragon Quest IX with cheat codes. I copied them from a usrcheat.dat database just now, so I've never actually used any of the unlock extra quest codes, with all their differing requirements. I've only used the code to unlock the inn guests.

I guess this still wouldn't allow buying some of the exclusive items from DQVC, but that can be done with a save editor to either edit your inventory and records, or the inventory and prices of the DQVC itself, and a list of the exclusive items

Also the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Time and Darkness have some codes that can be entered in place of downloading the special missions from wifi. The Sky version has these available from ingame, where you'll randomly receive the missions when entering the cafe.

Other than those special quests, iirc the only other wifi functions in those games are rescuing others if you die, but that is just a socialization bonus to make the game more forgiving. It could be replaced by posting passwords to have someone else save you, or copying the password into a generator to remove that extra step of getting help from someone else.
