I've followed the advice someone gave me here: make preloader run from IOS249 to enable disc channel access for backups.

I did that and it shows the animation and whatnot, but when I press start it reboots my Wii.

Any idea on what I could do to fix it? I'm using cIOS rev13 (not b)

It was the EVIL cIOS rev13

But AWESOME cIOS rev9 came to the rescue!

cIOS rev13 lost 9146 HP!
cIOS rev13 called for help!
cIOS rev13b joined the battle!

cIOS rev9 launched a backup from the disc channel!
cIOS rev13 and its cohorts are perplexed!

cIOS rev9's attack!
23057 of damage to cIOS rev13b!
cIOS rev13b was deleted!

cIOS rev13 is trying to uninstall itself.

cIOS rev9's attack!
2935876 of damage to cIOS rev13!
cIOS rev13 was deleted!

YOU WON!

Well, if it works with launching backups from the disc channel using preloader's IOS249 system menu, then I will gladly install it.

When you set Preloader to IOS249, your setting System Menu to load using IOS249, not preloader. Thus since the disc channel is part of system menu, you have the disc channel set to use IOS249. That means that since IOS249 is dip patched to be able to read backups, that the disc channel can read the banner/animation off backup discs as well as originals. Actually running the games from disc channel though requires that the IOS' that the games use be dip patched. So without having your other IOS' dip patched the backup game discs cannot run, unless you use a rebooter method from a loader. CIOSCORP is what is responsible for "native backup disc loading from disc channel"

For a more detailed description of the above and other IOS functions read this:
