Use? Games, possibly very little video
Price Range? No limit, but I am a bang-for-your-buck type of shopper, and don't like to pay more then I have to
Slot 1/2? Both
Built in or expandable memory? Expandable for slot 1, built-in for slot two.
Special features? I need some sort of way to organize the files in the menus. Good download play support would be stellar.
Any flashcarts you are looking at in particular DSTT, Acekard2, RAGE, SCDS1
Other? The Slot-2's to get are pretty clear cut, but I've been having a hell of a time deciding what slot one to get. DSTT is out because I want the ROMs in my menu organized, but that's as far as I've gotten. No matter how much I read about the other three, I just can't decide. They all look like they fulfill my needs, and for similar enough price. I just can't choose! I'm confused about the microSD card selection, also....Why are the Japanese made Kingston's considered, "The best," by so many people if they're only class 4? There are bunch of nice class 6 micro SDHC cards on Newegg that are much cheaper for the capacity then paying the premium price many of the flash card sites put on the Japanese Kingstons. Is it just hype and a hive mentality about the Japanese Kingstons?
For all slot-1's (ignore if you want a slot-2):
Support slot-2 GBA? Yes, I love me some GBA
Support slot-2 rumble packs? Don't care
Support slot-2 RAM (web browser)? Don't care
For slot-2's (ignore if you want a slot-1): expansion pack or its own memory? Own memory
By RAGE, I think you mean EDGE, correct?
Well, out of the three, it really depends on what you're looking for.
Acekard 2: It's the cheapest, and has the nicest GUI out of the three. It's fairly easy to use, and is the best "budget" cart. It also seems to have a good support team.
EDGE: It's a Cyclo rip-off, but a good one. It's pretty much a Cyclo, without the features that make people want it. However, it has some weird reports of it dying at odd times. The acekard 2 has all the stuff the EDGE has, so there really isn't a point of getting this.
SCDS1 SDHC: This is a cart that stands up, even to the CycloDS. It has more features, such as multiple save slots, In-game guide, in-game cheats, and a support team that never drops support for any of their products.
But it's a little hard to use for beginners, and has a GUI that a lot of people may find ugly. I, for one, don't mind it at all, but quite a lot of people do, so you should check that out. And it's a little slower compared to other carts. It's not the slowest, but a 1-3 second difference between the other carts.
The SCDS1 SDHC has what called, a "tripple loader". It uses a hacked DSTT firmware, and lets you take the benefits of the DSTT, while keeping the original stuff. This way, the speed issue is sorted out, and you can use 3 (YSmenu of DSTT) different "carts" at once.
I have a review of the SCDS1 SDHC on my blog. Check that out if you want. (Click my name, view profile, scroll down, and you should find it.)
About the micro sd: The Japanese Kingstons are known to be fast. REALLY FAST. Although they're considered a Class 4, the Japanese Kingstons are slightly slower than the Class 6 cards currently available. For example, on my Sandisk class 4 card, whenever I turn on a Castlevania game, the opening lags. If I use the Japanese Kingston, which is also class 4, it doesn't lag.
That's how it is.
GBA games:
And since you wanted to play GBA games, buy a GBA expansion slot-2. A good one is the Ewin 2-in-1, and EZflash 3-in-1. They're both made to play GBA games, and a few more stuff, so you choose. The Ewin has a better Ram, 5 bucks cheaper, but doesn't have a rumble. EZflash 3-in-1 has rumble, GBA, RAM.
Both of these require a Slot-1 cart available to use them.
In conclusion,
If you want something fast, simple, cheap and does all the simple jobs, then choose the Acekard 2.
If you want something more powerful, has more features,
has a slight learning curve and best bang for the buck, then choose the SCDS1 SDHC.
They're both excellent choices.
