If it's a launch day wii and you can get it virgin you might be lucky and get a refurbished wii replacement the worst is the phone or write telling you how much to fix

what sort of artifacts are you guys referring to? can I see a screenshot?
Also, how old are the wiis in question?

Artifacts typically show up as small dots or lines a bit like pixelation. In some intensive games you can get wierd sparkley effects and black splodges over the screen. With my Wii, I could even see it on the Wii main menu.

after reading this thread yesterday, i decided to rma a wii i had sitting here with a black screen, got it back today.
yep quick servicei live like 10mins away from the repair center

was surprized that i actually got back a brand new wii that is boot2v4 and was able to install bootmii as boot2, with a d2c chipset.

even comes with a new 1 yr warrenty.

No surprise then. I'd say about 85% of LU5x units I've seen run bootmii.

It just depends if it's a refurbished LU5x or an original LU5x. The refurb units I've seen are more prone to being incapable of bootmii (because of mobo replacements).
