Hello! I am interested in dumping the physical nand from a new nintendo 3ds motherboard. It seems that I have to solder to some pinouts, connect wires to a sd interface, and connect to the PC.

However, a lot of tutorials I've seen rely on powering on the 3DS to be able to dump the nand. I have a motherboard that does not power on at all, not at the fault of the fuses, nor battery, nor power button, nor any cable connection. I unfortunately do not have the skills or knowledge to continue checking what might be wrong with the motherboard itself.

Therefore, I'd like to ask this: for a motherboard that cannot power on, is there a different approach I can take to being able to read/dump the physical nand data? Or, is it impossible to do so without finding a way to power on the device?

First of all: I can't answer the question how to power on the NAND externally.

What I can say is that dumping the NAND is useless unless you already have the encryption keys. Without they keys you have to power on the console to get them... at this point software methods are superior.

Are you talking about the keys contained in the essentials.exefs file when initially hacking the 3ds? If so, luckily, I do have it.

Unfortunately, I have been completely unable to find the sysnand.bin files that were moved off the sd, so it is lost. Even if found, it is older, dating to 2020. I'd like to see if we can get the more recent content from the nand itself.

However, powering it on normally seems impossible at this time, without further guidance from someone who can further diagnose motherboard issues.

Do you know how to dump the NAND in this case? I only know the method with the SD reader and that needs the motherboard to power on -- as far as I know.

There is not much to be found there. Step and play history. Saves from Face Raiders, Mii characters. Possibly DSiWare and save data. If you had a NNID linked with purchased games it should be possible for Nintendo to unlink it and transfer the licences to another 2DS or 3DS this way.

Save data from SD should be possible to decrypt if no factory reset has been done after creating the essentials backup.

Unfortunately no... I was hoping there be another way to get the data without powering on the motherboard in a typical fashion.

Is the streetpass plaza also saves within the nand as well? I'd like to preserve it if possible too.

I think we can get the NNID transferred by contacting Nintendo (I think?) and decipher the save data since no factory resets have been done.

At least some Mii Plaza data is stored to the NAND. There's some ambiguity as to how much is stored separately on the SD card; it might only be data from the newer Mii Plaza games.

Decrypting SD card data with essentials.exefs is relatively straightforward.
