Hacking Possible Modifications

Is it possible to hack or modify an 80 gig NTSC ps3 to play pal dvd's and to be able to copy USB external hard drive files to the console hard drive? Thanks.

As far as I know the homebrew DVD player only plays unencrypted DVDs.

Is there some sort of code to unlock PAL playback? I know a lot of DVD players have that option. Don't know if the same holds true for game consoles with DVD functionality.
