Would an OLED use more or less power than standard LCD?
Effectively, an OLED would use less power as each pixel on the screen can be lit up individually while a LCD screen has to use backlight panels and such.
It's also how OLED can give off more vibrant colors and "absolute black" than a LCD.

That depends a lot... the OLED power consumption varies widely and it's scene dependent, if it has everything completely black with a few things drawn only on the moment it will consume much less power but then again when it's showing a bright scene it tends to consume much more so it's never a given number but rather scene-by-scene while the LCD power consumption varies little on scene-by-scene at least without local dimming.

keeping thousands of pixels lit in clear OLED images consumes more than a few lamps.

will vary more by brightness. In addition, an LCD can consume more than 60%, I cannot imagine with the OLED. I have never seen talk of devices with a long battery life when it has OLED, that includes the meager hours that Steam Deck will have.

Sure the brightness is the number 1 power eater, but was talking more about leaving the brightness\backlight option at some point and not touching it the OLED power consumption keep changing a lot by what's going on the screen at the moment and the LCD tends to vary very little.

The OLED most of the times end up eating much more power than the LCD on monitor and TV sizes, but that depends on a lot of stuff too, pixel count, size, oled light setting (backlight setting on LCD) and what's showing per frame (the darker the less power, the brighter the more power).

I really haven't searched to see what usually would consume more generally on a 7 inch display of only 720P regarding OLED vs LCD but most likely OLED will consume considerably less power in such conditions specially if not being used anywhere near the maximum brightness setting like under the sun where the OLED would increase power consumption a lot more than the leds backlight of a LCD increasing their brightness (it's always a each person case when it comes to power consumption which is a bit hard to generalize with the OLED).

On big TV's the OLED already will consume considerably more than the LCD because they are at least 4K, then LG has a extra white sub-pixel in their OLED TV panels so at the same light output in lumens in most normal viewing scenes the OLED will consume more power.

As relevant or irrelevant as this may be, my LCD vita battery life far exceeds my OLED model.
Never owned Vita and never cared neither searched anything about it...

But since the LCD one you have is a later model, the improvements in battery life can surely be from the LCD but a lot of it most likely are due to other small hardware changes no?

Like I said never searched for Vita hardware revisions but a general rule is that at each hardware revision they always tend to make the consoles more efficient, consume less energy and run cooler...

Ps: anyway at least the way I use portable stuff for me the Oled would most likely give me more battery life because I tend to use everything on very low backlight settings and I also reduce colours like on phones I don't like to use the oversaturated profiles but rather the natural one. I wish was that Steam Deck had a OLED upgrade to choose

These pictures are from ali express (item 1005002926500743) I'm not sure if you can trust it. They explain on the on hand it is an original screen, on the other hand they say, it is a brighter screen with better color.
I would have tried if you hadn't already lied about the screen being 100% original. Very fishy.

Well supporting or not I'm sure "China" could always make a conversion kit for it, hope someone do it and not being the price of the switch it self either :)...

Anyway I found what looks like a nice LCD kit for the switch but can't find much info on it...

LCD+touch mod:

Does anyone know if this LCD mod is real and worth it??

Have ordered many screens from Ali and they arent all the same. Some are close to OEM and some are def not up to quality.

No, you can't and don't even think about it. OLED and LCD technology are different, as are the internal hardware drivers on the motherboard.

The big difference is that in LCD there are inductors to turn on a tube to backlight the screen, in the OLED version each LED lights up by itself. Trying to replace an LCD to install an OLED will be more expensive than buying an OLED Switch.
I've seen original psp lcd screen changed to oled so what would be different on switch?

That screen is different... It's supposed to be a upgrade LCD for the Switch with much better visibility and so on...

It seems that the LCD is more like a smartphone one with the touch as glass glued to the LCD and with the LCD being closer to the glass, don't know is if it's real or not.

If it made as much difference as the pictures I posted, it would be totally worth it over the original LCD, but I'm almosty sure they have been edited and exaggerated to show bigger difference.

Yeah I believe that is correct the OLED being an all in one. What im saying is there might be various versions of the OLED screen eventually and Hekate im sure will incorporate them like before. You simply have to calibrate/marry "some" after market screens.

I wasn't talking about the OLED, but yeah Chine can produce a custom all-in-one some day, who knows...

I was talking about a older post from me that Gammelstulle replied...

It's a custom LCD for the switch which is supossed to have much better visibility under light, better contrast...

Check the link. To me it looks like it's more like a smartphone LCD where the digitizer seems to be glued to the LCD it self and it's closer to the glass or at least I hope it's glass instead of the crap plastic from the original Switch assembly, they also claim to prevent dust which if it's glued it sure is dust proof.

ps: I can't find much info on them, if it made really a huge difference, it would be totally worth to buy one and improve the old Switch permanently...

I've seen a couple of posts with these. You're exactly right, they're just laminated LCD screens.

They seemed to hit all of the Chinese markets around the same time that guy posted a video of him laminating his own screen and then gifting the Switch to a friend. Not sure if it was advertising or inspiration, but they seemed to happen at the same time.

That being said, I ordered one a couple of weeks ago. Still waiting on the boat ride from China. But from the photos I've seen from other users, it will be a noticeable difference.

Please post the results and your opinion in terms of general quality, colors, contrast, brightness, black level...

And above all if it's totally worth paying for it as a upgrade for the old switch.
