Depends on what you're passionate about.
Socio/political is probably the route to go. What's going on in the world today that strikes you deeply?
Make it about some type of era of writing. Say Romantic or Victorian or 20th century.
Oh fuck, I hated these the most when I was in my freshman year. Current events is always a good subject; probably something on the big voting issue in Iran would do nicely.
Well when i once did the MUN (model united nations) im sure most of you know about it, they encouraged us to pick topics that had credibility.
Just go for something which you can actually write about, taking a cliche topic isn't bad, as long as you know how to deal with it. Anything that has to do with things that are happening now is great
