What??? I thought that you could just turn off the gamepad by pressing the power button on it, then pressing it again to turn off the gamepad???

No, it won't. A message will appear on the gamepad's screen saying that you cannot turn off the console using the gamepad and only the controller itself will be turned off.
turning off the console with the gamepad while in vWii only works if you're playing the eShop version of a Wii game compatible with the gamepad (Xenoblade Chronicles for example)

Wii U can do everything that the Wii can do + more. Wii was a better console, for its time, than the Wii U was. But retroactively, Wii U is a better device to crack open and to get the best of both worlds with.

I just tried and you're right. They must've changed it to this because I don't remember this happening.
