what about ghost?
I like ghost. It isn't part of the trinity though.

Psychic is the mind, yes? What does the mind fear? Ghosts Bugs and Darkness (which i realize now contradicts my above statement, still good luck on that light typing though),
Just a fun little fact :)

It's still based on trickery. Psychic has nothing that counterparts it to fighting type either. Fighting is actual contact, fighting. Dark is fighting, just using dirty tactics.

No, in pokemon types in a pair both affect each other equally. Water and Fire is not a pair because one is super effective against the other.

Water, fire, and grass are a triangle, just like dark, fighting, and psychic. In fact a lot of the "dark"-type moves in the US are name-changed. For example "sucker punch" isn't affected by pokemon abilities that would affect punch attacks because it's not a punch, it's "surprise attack", and they just call it "sucker punch" in the US.
Ah forget it, I know it's a triangle but my opinion didn't mean it from that angle.

Eh... I'm not talking type advantageous wise but it's a but...
The Fighting type could be considered a physical counterpart to the Psychic type:
  • The highest average stat among all Fighting types is Attack, while for Psychic types it is Special Attack.
  • The Fighting type is the only formerly physical type to not have any old moves changed into special moves, while the Psychic type is the only formerly special type to not have any old moves changed into physical moves.
  • Counter and Mirror Coat, moves countering physical and special attacks are, respectively, Fighting- and Psychic-type moves.

Yes, I agree that they can be considered counterparts in that way. Nice observation.

We're talking about different things though. :S
I'm meaning like, the reason they oppose each other. Fire burns grass, water puts out fire, that is obvious. What does psychic power do to fighting types that it doesnt do to other types? Fighting vs Dark is like a direct clash of styles (of fighting) is what I'm trying to say.

Some people say that Psychic conterparts Fighting type because they're based on mind and body, respectively. Also adding that Dark type in japanese is Evil type, suporting the theory about dirty tactics, and the good guys (fighting type) fight the bad guys (dark type)

Yeah I can definitely see that side, too. It's just that when people say "There is a dark type, so we need a light type now!" It's not that kind of dark, so if there was a light type it would be literally light/vision-based attacks, but not a counter to dark types. Light type would probably get its own counter as a new type as well (or a repeat of gen II, two completely new types fit into existing ones.)

Hell, if they feel creative they could make a light type be based around light AND the lack of light (essentially "true" darkness) but that doesn't seem reasonable for Pokemon. :P

Speaking of grass types, anyone else think they need a buff? Grass seems useless to me in-game. Resisted or normal against most types. Not really sure what they can do about that without changing things that they shouldn't. :/

I also think grass is a bad type. It used to be one of my must-have types in-game, but i'm seriously thinking about replacing it on pokemon XY

Though it doesn't reveal anything new, CoroCoro also reveals the pieces about the new Pokémon revealed last week. In doing so, it confirms that it replaces Mewtwo on the movie poster and confirms that it is in fact a new form of Mewtwo, with the poster explanation stating that Mewtwo has awakened and become its new shape.

It's a new form after all... not bad, Mewtwo will be (and is) the final boss forever.
Also, you should stops to tlak about types, Gamefreak sure will give us a big surprise starting with Sylveon's type.
