No, but you have to use the D-Pad to simply walk/run. Roller Skates are automatically assigned to the Circle Pad and you can't turn it off.

I never had any problems with the skates. In fact I find it much easier to control with the circle pad than the bike in previous games. They could have added the option for you to wear them though, maybe in Z perhaps?

Oh yeah one thing to people who have yet to buy this game, once you pick a language when you start the game, you cannot change it. I picked English for my Japanese copy, hence I'll be stuck with English but the event pokemon (torchic so far) are in Japanese.

Maybe there will be a language changer person later on in the game, so I'll keep this updated.
