not really, all he has to do is give his friend 5 starters after beating the first gym 5 times. 2 of the starters will be placed in the PC for safe keeping. Then the friend gets the first badge and gives 2 of them back to him.

Still seems like a tedious task to me, I'll be content with Froakie by my side.

For me i chosed : Squirtle,Cyndaquil,torchic , Piplup,snivy and i guess i'll go with fennekin for the next games if i don't like it's evolutions or if it ends up being a fire/fighting (that i'm sure it will not cuz dat fennekin will be a fire/psychic no doubt about it) i'll be taking chespin and a MEGA BLAZIKEN FTW !!!

From Gen III onwards, besides FRLG and B2W2, breeding wasn't that late in the game right?

If you have 2 friends who choose different starters, just get them to trade you the egg of the other starters afterwards.
If all wants the same starter, just you/your friend restart the game twice, and breed the starter afterwards.

Plus, breeding might provide access to certain moves earlier on, right?

Me and my friend are both choosing Fennekin, so that's the plan we have...
(One Froakie and Chespin can be shared amongst us with breeding, plus if we SR for a female, we don't need to find/rely on finding a Ditto early game)

It's the same odds as any other shiny, only it's an event PKMN, and not wild. IIRC, it's 1/8192 odds to find a shiny and Pokerus is 3x harder than that to obtain.
