It wouldn't affect you, most CPU players don't boost. I'm saying the critical damage should be lessened if your sp def or def is raised etc. right now it seems to completely disregard stat changes.
From what I know: Let's say your attack deals 100 damage normally. With a crit it would do double that, 200. If the enemy has double defense, it would normally do 50 or something. Crit that and it becomes 100... so still halved. I don't see the problem?

It doesn't take account to that. Crit hits are calculated using modified or unmodified attack stat or defense stat, whichever is more advantageous to the attacker.http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Critical_hit#Critical_hit

on gen 1 choosing a charmander

Pokemon Yellow says hi.
Edit: Ugh, accidental doublepost, I forgot I was already the last poster.

Butterfree learns confusion at level 10, Mankey gets low kick at level 10, and Nidoran M learns double kick at level 12. Problem solved. :)
YES, I don´t like to have so much pokemons, i usually beat the game w/ just 4 pokemons.
Don't you want to catch them all though?

you can get a nidoran before brook? O.o

mankey has a 5% chance to appear doesnt he?

and you cant get a second pokemon to level 10 before brook only from the trainers... meaning you need to farm a little.

No you cannot get a nidoran before brock as I recall.

Mankey is a rare pokemon, true. But u can still catch it.
And yes u do need to farm a little, like in all pokémon games. Once you do that, like Sagat said, it's a problem solved. XD

Well, that's almost correct. If I'm getting this right... your defense is reduced from screech or something, that's absolutely fine and you'll get crit for increased damage. If def is boosted it'll be ignored. You gotta quote the whole thing :P
When a move scores a critical hit, damage is calculated based on either the modified or unmodified attack and defense stats, whichever is more advantageous to the attacker. For example, an attacker who has used Swords Dance and then makes a critical hit will get the benefit of the increased Attack, while one affected by Charm will use its normal Attack score. Likewise, if the attacker uses Screech on the foe and then makes a critical hit, it will still get the benefit of the decreased Defense like normal then count the critical hit into damage calculation. Another example would be if a team had Light Screen or Reflect on it and the attacker scored a critical on the team with the certain wall; the defense added by the wall would then be ignored, and the attacker would do double damage. However, it does not ignore modifiers caused by items or Abilities such as Eviolite, Defeatist, or Slow Start, nor does it ignore the attack reduction caused by a burn.

I did say the whole thing. I just didn't quote an example. Which is what you've just demonstrated. What I said is correct.
The thing I should have added is this: "However, it does not ignore modifiers caused by items or Abilities such as Eviolite, Defeatist, or Slow Start, nor does it ignore the attack reduction caused by a burn."

E-x-a-m-p-l-e-s!!! I may be drunk as you say, but I sure can read. Good lord, I'm done speaking to you.

Can't wait till it's out, gonna buy both X & Y. If they take it out, then Z as well~
Loving everything so far, however at first i was a bit annoyed with the new "Fairy" type. I love my Salamance sooo yh.... Seeing a Merrill killing a dragon would hurt me inside.
That aside, i think it'll be interesting and just means gotta think thing through more and have a change in game style.

As for the starters, i have always picked the water types since the beginning. It did take me a while to accept Piplup and Oshawott at first, but then they grew on me.
I only wished they had made Froakie Water/Dark and not Water/Fighting :/
Personally i think we need more Water/Dark Pokemon~

On my second game i will most likely pick fennekin. The fox is quite sure :)

Red and Blue version, you can't get Nidoran M, but in Yellow it appears in Route 2. Mankey appeared in Route 3 in Yellow, but I'm not sure about the encounter chance. So Yellow had it easier, and Red/Blue had it harder. You can still get a couple of Butterfree's to level 10 easily enough. A bit of grinding wont kill you.

mankey appears in route 3 in fire red and green grass.

still i disagree to any kind of farming in pokemon... just like final fantasy you should be able to finish the whole game by just fighting any random and fighter in the game

getting random battles for the sake of getting random battles is too boring...

Yes let's start the game with all Pokémon so we can eliminate all farming. While we're at it, let's also delete all types to remove any kind of disadvantage and all Pokémon should be level 100 so we can eliminate the boring grind as well. We also shouldn't be forced to fight all gym leaders because it takes too long. No scrap that, might as well pop an achievement while booting into the game congratulating you you have beaten the game.

We're talking about gen 3 not gen 1.
Grinding may be boring but it's a staple to the RPG genre
