so is this the new thing then? new Pokemon game every year or two but not be able to catch every new pokemon and not give your customers what they want?

imo either gamefreak should slow down on the release cycle or give what the fanbase they want.

what happens once nintendo releases new console which is more powerful?

What? No game has included every Pokemon as catchable. The focus is always on the new Pokemon of that generation, everything else you have to transfer over via PokeBank.

The fan base wants gen8 ASAP, they don't want to wait half a decade for it no matter what the excuse.

They'll keep using the HD engine from Sword and Shield. It'll scale far better with improved hardware than the 3DS engine would have.

No, the fanbase would rather have the game delayed and be able to transfer their Pokemon. For some, the ability to keep past Pokemon with you means more than simply being able to wipe someone else's team or complete the National Dex.

Most competitive players will stay on the 3ds due to this

But Pokémon Home arrives early in 2020, maybe 2-3 months after Pokémon SS, so maybe they can update SS with new Pokémon while Pokémon Home arrives, maybe we just have to wait ... or they said there will not be more Pokémon after launch?

For some, absolutely. Those people will get their wish, but they would've had to wait for that wish to come true either way. Looking at the bigger picture, Let's Go not only generated a lot of hype for gen8, it also brought a whole lot of new players into the fold. To take advantage of that they need to release S&S sooner rather than later.

Precisely. They can also add new in-game events to correspond with models from previous generations being added.

I'm almost certain that most people would rather have the game delayed than have the rest of the Pokedex added as an update or, dare I say it, paid DLC.
I'd put a link to a Tweet that proves my point, but upon closer inspection, the poster deleted it. I'm asking them why they did so now.
Update: I have found an archive of the mentioned Tweet.

Neither of us can speak for the majority of Pokemon fans, but I don't think the hardcore players are going anywhere. It's the current hype level and the chance to hook new players that are on more of a time limit.

I mean, if the majority of #BringBackNationalDex Tweets I've been seeing say anything, it says that the majority of Pokemon players new and old will refuse to buy this game unless something is done to restore the National Dex.

Nobody has said they won't be adding it later. If people are willing to wait through delays, then waiting until all the models are added to buy S&S shouldn't be a problem for them. A lot of us would prefer to have gen8 content to enjoy while we wait, however.

Okay, but I'll say it again: There is no reason for not adding it to the game in the first place. Models and animations have been reused since XY, with only minor changes being made to them as the series has progressed. Performance wouldn't be an issue either, since it's already known that the Switch can handle large open-worlds like The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, and a complete National Dex can't possibly be more taxing on resources than Skyrim, right?
Also, your argument is the equivalent of "Let's allow Nintendo to release half of Animal Crossing: New Horizons now, and let them release the rest as DLC later so some of us can enjoy an incomplete game while the rest wait for it to be completed."

So Gamefreak is digging their heels in and now saying it's balance issues. As if any Pokemon game has been balanced.

Can't wait until they flip the script again and start blaming the players for it.

They been saying it’s due to balance and the dynamax models from the beginning. Players just want to cause trouble.

They’ll probably balance stats and those Pokémon in slowly with free patches. However as I have said several times already, additional dynamax forms won’t be. Instead they wait a year or two and add them all in dual rereleases. I still think we will get two crystal let’s go games before the dual rereleases however.

Game freak has reportedly switch over half there staff to working on Town. After the dual rereleases and the let’s go sequels, I believe Pokémon might be done til another system comes out. Seems like the Town game is being prepared to replace Pokémon as game freak’s franchise.

I want to make sure I understand this correctly. The Pokemon I have in LGPE won't all be transferable into SS. Only specific Pokemon from LGPE that are in the Galar Regional Pokedex will be transferable to SS? Also, I would have to use the Pokemon Home App to transfer them. Is that about the gist of it?

The reason is time, as we've been discussing.

Up until now the changes have been minor. It's plainly obvious how much higher res and how much more detailed the models in S&S are compared to models from the 3DS engine (Let's Go). If I had to guess, gen8 is running on a modified UE4.

Correct, this has nothing to do with performance. It's a matter of re-creating models and animations from scratch.

There's no version of Animal Crossing that has 1000+ character models, so that's not a good comparison. I've also not mentioned DLC, and I seriously doubt that's how Pokemon models will be added to gen8.

Unfortunately I just came from a YouTube stream. It’s been clarified by gamefreak. Going forward for all new Pokémon titles, only the most popular Pokémon will continue to be used. All others will be trapped on Pokémon home until they (gamefreak) feels they will fit the environment of an upcoming title. However that means others will be unused instead. Ultimately this means some Pokémon overtime will be canned. This extends to the card game n all other areas of the franchise as well.

I really don't know about this. From the footage I've seen, it looks like the Pokemon models and animations are still the same ones that have been recycled since gen 6. Going back to gen 6 for a moment, the models had pretty high polygon counts for the 3DS. The 3DS could barely maintain 30FPS rendering two of them at once, and double battles were just slideshows. But they did this so that the models would be future-proof, because obviously creating 800+ models from scratch every game would be very time consuming. So they've been doing just that. The same models have been used in the gen 6 games, the gen 7 games, Go and Let's Go, and now they're using them again for Sword and Shield. Yeah, they look better in Sword and Shield because of the fancy new graphics engine, but the polygons are still the same. And the dynamaxed Pokemon are using the same models too, just blown up in size. Sun and Moon had models and animations for all Pokemon, including animations for all of them in Refresh! If they really were redoing all the models for these games, I would still be upset, but I would understand. It just doesn't seem like that's the case though.

3DS is 240p, I wouldn't exactly call that high polygon counts.

Gen8 also appears to be running at 30 FPS, but Let's Go is 60 FPS. That makes it pretty clear which models are more taxing on Switch.

A new engine means new models, they aren't going to import 1:1 without looking out of place.

Resolution has nothing to do with polygon count though?

Pretty sure Let's Go was only 30FPS too, don't quote me on that though. I haven't touched the game in a while.

This isn't true. People dump models from games and use them for other purposes all the time, even importing them into other games! They probably updated the textures since the resolution of the system is higher, but the triangles that make up the shape of the model are still exactly the same.
