I think they should make special people in each region who teach HM abilities to pokemon without taking up an attack slot.
i think the medabots rpg method is slightly better(no HM's, but the way vehicle modes where unlocked are an interesting way for unlocking field moves)
in medabots rpg vehicle modes(similar to pokemon HM moves) where unlocked if you obtained a certain key-item.
as such it could be made that HM moves are replaced with key items.
examples:
strength bracers(when in the key items pocket any pokemon normally capable of learning strength would be able to move rocks outside of battles)
reinforced knuckle(rock smash)
waterproof seat(surf)
lightweight mount(fly)
sharpening stone(cut)

Medabots = robots
Pokemon = creatures.

I think PETA would not appreciate using your sharpening stone on a mew =/

lmfao @saddamsdevil but he has a point.

On one hand its a huge hassle to have a "HM B**ch"
On the other, I believe they do that on purpose to impose at least a little bit of strategy on whom you chose to sit out in certain areas and such.

What I did, since I didn't want to bother with WiFi, was change up all trade evolutions to either level evolutions, or items evolution. For instance, I had Scizor evolve instead of evolve with Metal Coat then trade, to Scizor evolve with Metal Coat at level up at night, and at day (since all item hold evolutions by level up were time-based, i.e. was limited to day or night). In the end I had Scyther have two evolutions, one was item hold level evolution with Metal Coat during the day, and was for the night.

This way, I can have the evolutions I want without sacrificing the use of the item involved. For those PKM without the items, I made them into simple level evolutions.

Of course, this is assuming you have the ROM =P I can't wait to save up enough money for either HG or SS so I can have my own Pokewalker too

This is the program I used: Pokemon Evolution Editor

As for Fire pokes, I found a Magmar I think in the area before you get to the Cianwood Safari Zone, so that's at around 4 badges I think. I think I also found Growlithes a little earlier, just can't remember where. This is for HG BTW.

Okay, thanks a lot for the suggestion!
I've changed it now, Haunter is going to evolve to Genger at lvl 38.

I don't think Magmar is the right choice for me.... I'm thinking about training 2 Mareep to Ampharos, with some different movesets.
I know from Silver that Ampharos are just amazing, so strong and they can learn a shitload of different attacks.
This is my future plan team:

- Feraligatr
- Lugia
- Gengar
- Dragonite
- Ampharos
- Ampharos

Only vice is maybe a grass type, but I don't think I will really feel that with Dragonite and Lugia
smile.gif
I never played a lot with grass too in my previous games.

I don't have WiFi on my DS.
And yeah, I too think the HM system should be thought over. They should make it a kind of skill that doesn't take up an attack space.

Ampharos can learn Fire Punch by TM, so there goes my Fire problem.
Fire Punch, Ice Punch, Thunder, something else. The other is going to have Strength, Thunder, something else, something else.

I don't get why you guys hate HMS and lack the talent in using them.
You reakize its to make a game harder, right and are needed.
I say why don't you know, not have an HM slave.
I use all my HM usually as attacks except for cut, rock smash, and rock climb.
And when they are needed I just forget a move I can easily relearn and relpace it.

Are you complaining about how Europe is always the last to get games from Japan?
Look at it this way how many times do they have to translate the game in Europe?
Answer: Alot.

Then you obviously play for offline reasons. But even if its for offline purposes, pretty much all the HMs suck except 2. The only exception would probably be Surf or Waterfall; the only 2 that you would ever see online/competitive Pokemon.

Exactly. Many people who play online do all the ev stuff with natures and everything, I'm not one of them but if you look at some videos they are properly trained and their Pokemon have strategic and tactical movesets. Something like "cut" or "rock smash" wouldn't exactly be a good choice.

I do play online.
Also, there is away to reteach moves so yyou can delete one for a puzzle and relearn it later.

If you're playing online, then you should not have Fly and Strength as an attack move.. Basically, the point was there is no talent in HMs. It's just a something you must have to prolong your quest. That's why people hate it. Thus, having an HM slave(s) is necessary for those who play at a high level. You're lucky if you run around using Fly and Strength against people online as many of them are quite competitive.

As Anakir says, HM are useless online(As he say too, Surf and Waterfall are the unique HM that can be useful)

Think as this, Your pokemon can only learn four techniques, thinking in all the kind of combo to make your pokemon worthy enough to have it with you in online battles.... BUT, you waste one of those slots teaching an HM...

Example, Monferno can learn Close Combat.... but before he learned the move you teach him Strenght and you cant delete the other moves, cause they are part of your strategy.... but also, you need that Close Combat move... See?
HM are useless.... there arent too much strategy using an attack that have a probability to miss and also dont have a secondary effect

I had a fail battle against Lance the second time.
Ice Beam against Garchomp, he didn't die. Wtf.
Thunderbolt against Gyarados, he didn't die. Wtf x2.
Stone Edge against Charizard, he didn't die. Wtf x3.

I still won however, because his Dragonite used Safeguard instead of killing me. I love the AI sometimes.

Well, I'm a believer of the HM system. And while I do agree that you can't survive in competitive battlling with them on your movesets, that's why they created Move deleters and such. You won't need them when you're playing online. I think of it this way, PKM who don't have HM moves and have the best moveset possible for competitive play were bred for combat, so they're lacking in the adventuring part. Those with HMs, well, they're bred for exploring, and thus, not as good in battling as the others. Which is fine in my book, and makes a lot of sense too. You can't have your cake and eat it too =P

@Satangel
Glad I could help =) I actually had Gengar evolve at 36 or 37 I think, can't remember. Also, I cheated with my Vibrava, I had Trapinch evolve earlier lol.
