Instagram user guacasaurus_mex is working on a VMU port of Pokemon Go for 2017.
The VMU with its tiny 48x32 resolution lacks GPS and any real processing power. So a randomly-generated map will be used instead and a timing-based mini-game will be used to capture Pokemon instead of swipes to throw the Pokeballs.

funny how today i commented this in another thread
reskins, reskins of 8-16bit games everywhere....
for every android game that exists, there are at least a billion of the same exact gameplay, but different theme
and 99% is just basic programmed games that could be played on a mega drive if you nerfed the graphics and for whatever reason needs 1.2ghz quad core processors to run propertly

come on, my old nokia had gps, if propertly done could play pokemon go, without the AR (or even with the ar)

and now i read news how someone replicated pokemon go in a vmu, lol..
