Pokemon Direct June 5, 2019 - Roundup

As excitement continues to build for this year's new Pokemon mainline entries, Nintendo will be giving us a 15-minute Pokemon Direct to give us some new information, prior to E3. Watch it as it airs live, or check back for the roundup of all the biggest reveals.

We get to see footage of multiple characters fighting a huge oversized Gyarados.
Giant Pokemon are a thing. Giant digital Pokeballs can catch the huge Pokemon.
There's some sort of soccer/football-looking stadium where the giant Pokemon fight.
New never-before-seen Pokemon.

Attacks also turn into Max Moves.
Can be used once per battle, and will revert back to normal after three turns.
You can connect to other players.
Four trainers can join to play in Max Raid Battles where you fight tough dynamax Pokemon together.

Leon is the undefeated champion of the Gala region. He has a Charizard and is beloved by the people.
His younger brother, Hop, is your rival.

Dynamax is a reference to the ultraman franchise. Dynamax is the term used for when a human fuses with an ultraman. Causing the ultraman’s powers to be boost. Depending on the series, new skills and abilities are unlocked. And in the very early series, allowed the ultraman to return to their original size. Their original size being the size of Earth’s skyscrapers.

The first time I heard/saw Dynamax, it reminded me of Ultraman Dyna, after Ultraman Tiga. I used to watch that shit all the time when I was a kid. I haven't heard of Dynamax term in the Ultraman universe before, just Ultraman Dyna and Ultraman Max.

If the name for that had been Mixi Max, it would have been an Inazuma Eleven Go: Chrono Stone reference. I suppose that something like that would be more in line with what the little 2-colored swirl icon in the JP/KR logos might represent, besides Dynamax of course. Is this from the same thread that has gotten everything right so far or is it from another one?
I'm not sure which one you're referring to, I can't find the original screenshot from 4chan either.

Here's the excerpt though, posted on May 23th.
Here's the Pokémon Sword and Shield leak thread:

  • Your rival is named Hop, but you will also be facing of against Bede and Marnie
  • Team Yell is the gang in this game, who are well meaning fans of Marnie causing trouble
  • To become part of the gym challenge, you will have to get an endorsement. Bede gets an endorsement from Chairman Rose and his secretary Oleana
  • Eternatus is the evil legendary. The other legendary will be a wolf, who will either have a shield mane or hold a sword like Great Wolf Sif. Don't recall its name
  • Dynamaxing and Gigantamaxing are new dynamics that will supersize pokemon in specific areas. Gigantamaxing is different from dynamax as it changes what the Pokémon looks like. Meowth looks like long cat. Lapras gets layers like musical bars to its shell and musical notes. Pikachu looks like retro fat Pikachu
  • Sonia is Leon's former rival who is researching the dynamax phenomenon at the behest of her grandmother and professor of the game.
  • Some Pokémon, like Farfetch'd, will get regional evolutions, like Sirfechtd. Meowth looks like a ball of spiky grey fur
  • Skwovet and Greedunt are chipmunk Pokémon who will hide in berry trees and attack randomly if you shake for too many berries. If they attack, you lose half the berries that dropped.
  • The fourth gym is the first Fairy type gym, led by an actress named Opal. Milo, Nessa, and Kabu are the first ones.
  • Before fighting the gym leaders, you have to complete the gym challenges.
    • Milo has you herding sheep Pokémon named Wooloo, but Pamper, an electric corgi Pokémon, will startle them and send them rolling elsewhere.
    • Nessa has you running through a maze where water blocks the way
    • Kabu requires you to catch Pokémon and get five points, but you have to be in a party battle with another trainer who's also trying to catch it
  • While there is a transit system, you will have to go through the Wild Area at times, an open world biome that has a weather system and little pockets where wild Pokémon dynamax and have to be beaten in a for person raid. You will randomly see nearby players and interact with them to get their league cards and items
  • Camping is how you play with Pokémon now. You'll get two toys, a feather toy and toy pokeball, which can raise friendship. You can make curry which will raise starts and friendliness
  • Pokémon will not walk beside you in the overworld map
  • Scorbunny will have fighting moves, but is pure fighter. It becomes Raboot, but I don't remember the final evolution, except that it looks like a fighter. It looks humanoid
    • Writer's Note: it's likely that this is a typo and Scorbunny's final evolution is pure Fire not Fighting
  • Sobble becomes Sizzile and then Intelleon, a chameleon with a spy theme
  • Grookey will end up as a giant gorilla that beats a wood drum to attack.
  • The best Pokémon so far is the blue seagull who when it dives, either gets a barracuda in its mouth or a pikachu, which it launches at its enemy

So far there's extremely minimal differences from the official info. I just hyped myself a bit from this.

I haven't been to the 4chan thread myself, but I do remember it being briefly mentioned elsewhere. I can't recall where atm.
That list sounds pretty hype, so I hope that most of it does end up being true.

Interesting infographic I found on another website showing map locations. The world feels a lot bigger after I saw this image

I like that they are doing roaming Pokemon and random battles. I wonder if the shiny Pokemon will be random only or if the rarity is different for random battles vs roaming.

As for the Wild Area, I can eventually see it taking over all routes in future Pokemon games.

Also his choice was quite interesting since his songs are anything but family-friendly
  • Vetusomaru @ Vetusomaru:
If anything, some of his songs were so controversial that he got troubles with the law regarding "blasphemy laws" in Greece.
