What is this and why would you do something like that?
Well, I watched a video on YouTube, which inspired me to create a web application that turns any text into nonsense. In order to achieve something similar, the application sends the input text to Google Translator where it is translated to a random language. The result will again be sent to Google Translator. After repeating this process, the text will be translated back to English, which often produces hilarious results or changes the meaning of the sentence completely.

In order to take this to the next level, I exported all the text files of Pokémon X and changed the application a bit to obfuscate all the lines seperately... and the result is absolutely insane! I will release this amazing piece of software later after fixing some bugs and cleaning up, so stay tuned!

Limitations:
  • No Pokémon names are changed (the game crashed right at the beginning whenever I tried to change them, does anyone have an idea why?)
  • Any text with dynamic variables cannot be changed, since Google Translator doesn't know how to process them and things would likely break
  • Currently supported languages: English and German (more languages might be added in the future)
  • I can only distribute the romfs for Pokémon X, since I don't own a copy of Pokémon Y. I don't know if a Pokémon X Romfs is compatible with Pokémon Y. However, you can create a custom build if that doesn't work for you (see below)!

Installation:
  1. Follow this tutorial
  2. Overwrite the files of your romfs with the files in the .zip file (download link below)
  3. Boot up your HANS application on the 3DS and run it with the .romfs file (the option "Romfs -> SD" should be set to "Yes")

Note: I don't distribute the romfs directly anymore, so you'll have to dump your romfs using braindump and follow the instructions for overwriting you files.
Download (v1.3)

Custom build:
  1. Follow this tutorial
  2. Download the current "gametext" and "storytext" file for your language: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6rfgyef90y2epen/AADaJ3swkqrpkrVbXZe2E1q-a?dl=0
  3. After you opened pk3DS, click the "Game Text" button.
  4. Click "Import All (.txt)" and select the gametext_... file.
  5. Exit the Text Editor and repeat this step for the story text (now you need to import the storytext_... file, obviously)
  6. Follow the randomizer tutorial again to rebuild the Romfs.

Feel free to post suggestions and funny screenshots below! :)

PM romfs?
You can download the romfs using the link in the post: http://goo.gl/Fvzs9C
I'd be nice if someone could make a Pokémon Y version of this or help me somehow make it compatible with both versions, since I'm not very experienced.

You know that the 3DS community is magic when you see ROM hacks like these.

You actually made me laugh, thank you.
You're welcome!

funny, you could just translate the japanese to english or something - or the chinese fan translation to english :)
but the random thing you found is cool too, clever.

Try importing the text files (https://www.dropbox.com/sh/6rfgyef90y2epen/AADaJ3swkqrpkrVbXZe2E1q-a?dl=0) manually with pk3ds and then exporting the romfs.
I'm dying, squirtle.

Good work, op.
Always do your best!

Btw good news for Pokémon Y owners: I can borrow the game from a friend, so there'll be a Y version available soon.

Hey Pokémon Y and CIA people,

I decided to distribute a patch folder instead of the romfs, so everything should work for you now (let me know!)
Sorry for the inconvenience to the homebrew guys, since installation is now a bit more cumbersome than before. Everything should work fine if you follow the video tutorial I linked in the post though, so I hope you won't have any issues.

WE LOVE YOU DUDE, THIS IS THE BEST HACK.
Of course, this is the only romhack you'll ever need!

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
So my opinion is that they could age a bit better in the future, and maybe AMD will continue improving them via drivers like they tend to do. No guarantee there but they have done it in the past. Just a feeling I have.

cyberpunk at 4k without DLSS/fidelityfx *might* exceed 12gb
    +1
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
but that game barely runs at native 4k
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think it was some newer games and probably poorly optimized PS4 or PS5 ports
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
they definitely will age better but i feel dlss might outweigh that since it looks about as good as native resolution and much less demanding
    +1
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
When I played Cyberpunk on my old 2080 Ti it sucked lol
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
AMD could introduce something comparable to DLSS but nvidia's got a lot more experience with that
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
least amd 7xxx has tensor cores which the previous generations didn't so there is the potential for AI upscaling
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They have FSR or whatever it's called and yeah it's still not great
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
so AMD seem to finally be starting to take AI seriously
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Oh yeah those new 8000 CPUs have AI cores built in that's interesting
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Maybe they plan on offloading to the CPU?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Would be kinda cool to have the CPU and GPU working in random more
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    Tandem even
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i think i heard of that, it's a good idea, shouldn't need a dedicated GPU just to run a LLM or video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
even the nvidia shield tv has AI video upscaling
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
LLMs can be run on cpu anyway but it's quite slow
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
Have you ever been beaten by a wet spaghetti noodle by your girlfriend because she has a twin sister, and you got confused and fucked her dad?
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I had a girlfriend who had a twin sister and they would mess with me constantly.... Until one chipped a tooth then finally I could tell them apart.... Lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
They would have the same hair style the same clothes everything... Really messed with my head lol
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
@The Real Jdbye, I could see AMD trying to pull off the CPU GPU tandem thing, would be a way to maybe close the gap a bit with Nvidia. Plus it would kinda put Nvidia at a future disadvantage since Nvidia can't make X86/64 CPUs? Intel and AMD licensing issues... I wonder how much that has held back innovation.
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
i don't think nvidia wants to get in the x64 cpu market anyways
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
you've seen how much intel is struggling getting into the gpu market
  • The Real Jdbye @ The Real Jdbye:
and nvidia is already doing ARM
