Poke Transporter GB lets you transport your classic Pokemon to modern games

gb.jpg

Poke Transporter GB is a homebrew app for the GBA that serves to bridge the gap between the old and new games, providing a way to pull Pokemon from the Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles into the third generation. This is done using a custom Multiboot GBA ROM that genuinely could be mistaken for official software for just how professional and polished the final version actually is. With the ROM loaded on one system, you insert the GBA game you want the Pokemon to travel to. On another system, you put the Pokemon you want to transport into your current box, and talk to the Cable Club attendant to initialise a trade. It’s here where the magic really happens, with work behind the scenes happening to remove the Pokemon entirely from their original games. That’s not where it ends though, with a custom event being injected into your GBA cartridge to redeem these Pokemon. You can see the full process in action below:

Pokemon transferred in this way are modified in order to be legal in future games, though there are some quirks that mean they won’t be considered legal until they arrive in a certain generation. You can find a table detailing this here. For those interested in how it works, the creator also put together a video discussing the development process and exactly what's happening behind the curtain.

The application has had beta releases since December of last year, and got its 1.0.0 release just last week. If you’re interested in trying it for yourself, you can find the GitHub repo linked below.

Now if someone can figure out how I can get my official Mew from my copy of Pokemon Stadium that would be epic.

My original Red GB game save is lost. But my official mew is on my Pokemon Stadium cart on n64

I'm actually in a similar situation! I believe it is possible. I remember there was a program which could recover pokemons from the Hall of Fame data of the n64 cart. I don't know if it included all of the original data, or had to randomize some values (like IVs?).

I never got around to building/getting a hardware tool for dumping the save from my cartridge and now I can't even find the program any more. I'm pretty sure it was on github. I will update this post if I find it.
I have an EMS smart card and it is compatible with Stadium, since as long as you only have one game on it the game boots instantly. I used it to transfer Game Boy Camera saves to my PC using one of those save backup cartridges. Only issue is that it requires Windows XP to be installed, but I was able to do so through a virtual machine.
Also note that it does not have RTC support, so Pokemon Gold/Silver/Crystal will have some issues.

If You have a real N64 Pokémon stadium cartridge's I assume you can

1 connect the gb flash cart with the pokemon gb game rom and transfer mew there

Alternatively If you are using a actual GB game then you need a way to back up the save data.

2. The next part you need a modded 3ds with the Pokémon GB games. you would transfer the save file with your mew here. I've read they use the same type of save data or something. You would replace the save file.

3 use their poke transporter app to get the Pokémon to Pokémon bank

4 then from Pokémon bank to Pokémon home I think

You can't transfer from Stadium to GB though. That was one of the limitations of Stadium.

You don't really transfer your pokemon you just sort of copy and paste them to "register" them. They don't leave your original game boy copy.

I thought a program like this was possible since the day I learnt about the GBA's multiboot capability, still, I'm impressed by it.

I wonder if there is anything out there that lets you dump GB and GBC save files using a GBA, I really want a homebrew program that lets you do that since I don't have any means to properly dump GB and GBC stuff, there are some DIY Arduino based solutions that are economical but are a bit cumbersome to use.

Unfortunately this requires a GBA Link-to-USB cable, and it's not entirely clear how you would obtain one? Obviously it is not the same thing as a USB charging cable, which is what most of the Google results will get you. It might be

Yes you can!
Pokémon Stadium - Game Modes

The only "copy and paste" you are referring to is using your GB pokemon in Stadium/Gym leader castle/Free Battle

Pokémon Lab (Stadium) - Bulbapedia, the ...

You can store your GB Pokémon in Professor Oak's lab, and move them back and forth. Your n64 storage and Gb games

i'll admit, this is pretty dope. its a real shame i can't get any use out of this because i don't have a GBA, let alone a gen 3 pokemon game.

Tried it today with Crystal and Ruby... just got bad eggs. :( Well at least I did a back up first. Not sure what went wrong. Maybe my GBC cable is dodgy...

edit: Turns out I was just stupid and using an older version that was still on my SD Card

New issue seems to be it doesn't want to communicate with my GBC, which can still trade between GBC games so the GBC hardware seems to be ok... but it does at least work trading with a GBA SP and Gameboy Player. I don't know if I missed anything saying they had to both be GBA's or something.

Does this work on emulators? I tried it on mGBA and all it does is screen, when I press A then it reloads to the same screen.
