Nintendo 3DS Games Sold 3.7 Million Units in Less Than Two Weeks:

    3DS_PokemonMoon_boxart_temp.jpg

After becoming the most pre-ordered video games in Nintendo history, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon – the latest games in the wildly popular Pokémon franchise – have now become the fastest-selling games that Nintendo has ever launched in the Americas. In less than two weeks, Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon for the Nintendo 3DS family of systems sold a combined total of 3.7 million units. That’s an 85 percent increase over Pokémon X and Pokémon Y – the previous record holders for Nintendo’s fastest-selling games – during the same period when those games launched in 2013.

All Pokémon-related software has sold more than 280 million units* worldwide since launching with the Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version games in 1996. The Pokémon Red Version and Pokémon Blue Version games are both available for download in Nintendo eShop for Nintendo 3DS. Other notable launches in the Pokémon series include Pokémon X and Pokémon Y (15.64 million games sold globally life-to-date), Pokémon Omega Ruby and Pokémon Alpha Sapphire (13.18 million games sold globally life-to-date).

In Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Pokémon Trainers-in-the-making head to the game’s new Alola Region – a series of tropical islands – to catch, battle and trade Pokémon. By discovering new Z-Moves, Pokémon can unleash powerful attacks in battle. The new Poké Ride feature allows certain Pokémon to help people get to places they wouldn’t be able to reach by using human strength alone. In addition to three new partner Pokémon, players can catch a host of new Pokémon, as well as the unique regional variants of some familiar favorites.

I would love to see statistics like these, and historical statistics for game sales in the past, normalised by the population at the time.

Also hitting the world record for GTS related genning requests, it's been a nightmare, at least 100 requests every 12 or so hours in the subreddit I gen for.

    my dad works for nintendo.
does this include the digital copies? if so, what did they count, the purchase, or the downloads\installed games? cuz everyone had been getting it for free from nintendo servers, and thoose leaks had plenty of installs...
it's funny, the games that i will skip (lost interest since the 6 gen, however i have all 6 gen games) are the ones that get a record for fastest game sold

@T-hug do note that these 3.7 million are ONLY NA sales and do not include Nintendo eShop sales.

If people only knew what other great things they could do instead of sponsoring Ninty and their cow. In the land of the blind the one-eyed man is King, true indeed.

All these copies sold, and yet they still want to insist they can't produce more than 2 NES minis per store. Think about that for a moment.

I can feel some discontent of someone not getting their NES mini yet in your post :rofl2:

I think the Pokémon devs fucked up by using the multiplayer servers from ruby and safire. I would play The hell out of multiplayer if they use the mp servers from x and y, and getting rid of all the damn restrictions would make mp better.

Do you guys feel Pokémon Go helped make this possible. I just don't see how a free game could convince a mass majority to spend $200 on a handheld and another $40 on the game itself when that audience is used to seeing $1 games and candy crush.

It's really hard to nail down what factor is responsible for these results.

You have it to hand to these guys. They pulled out a lot of Pokemon stuff before Sun and Moon, & I think that helped spread the word about the franchise. Everything from the 20th anniversary Super Bowl commercial to Pokemon Go being one of the fastest-growing apps for mobile phones. Not to mention that the last few months before the release, they were bombarding us with new info; and that definitely sustained the hype for a lot of people, old and new.
As a fan of the series, I'm enjoying Sun a lot. Glad I got the chance to buy it.

No way in hell would that happen. Pokemon makes way too much money for them to cancel it.

I would like to see national dex #999 or perhaps even #1000. Doubt they would reach that number, but who knows?

If only people didn't have only enough money to apparently buy one game a year.
Really? What a retarded thing to say. Just because people buy and play pokemon doesn't mean they don't play anything else.
