This has probably already been asked many times before, but I've tried all the suggestions I could find and no luck.

So my rom of Pokémon Heart Gold has really slow loading times.
(The transitions 'black screens')
They can last up to 10 seconds.

I've tried getting different roms and no luck.
and I've tried all the latest RetroGameFan update along with the infolib/extinfo.dats.

I'm using a DSTT and a 4gb microsdhc 'level 4' or something. :/
Thanks.

Have you tried formatting it with panasonic sd formatter?

I have and it came up with an error saying it doesn't support full formatting.
Full (erase) or Full (overwrite)? One Quick format should do OK.
Erase.
It said it wasn't supported so it did a quick format instead.
I'll try again in a bit.

the erase option doesn't work for me either. I Don't have any problem doing the overwrite though.

I'm doing the overwrite option now.
Is it supposed to take so long?

it depends on the size of your SD: the bigger the longer it takes. Just wait patiently.

It's finished just putting the stuff back on the card and seeing if it works.

DSTT is not SDHC friendly,so you should try with a 2GB or lower microSD,i'm using a Kingston 1GB one and all games run smoothly,i have soulsilver and it runs like the original

I put it onto a 1gb microSD and it's gone down to 3 seconds.
Much faster.
Thank you very much.

I have the exact same problem with my 4gb and 8gb SD cards... RPG games like Pokemon and GoldenSun take long loading times but work smoothly on a 2 gb SD. They're all SanDisk. Maybe it's the manufacturer?

My 2GB is from Korea and it works fine
The 4GB is from Taiwan which lags
And the 8GB from China also lags....

I've tried every combination of formatting using the Panasonic SD formatter and they all fail...

i have got the problem, but only when i have cheat codes enabled.

Otherwise, compared to a retail card, the BAG MENU is the only thing that experiences a slowdown when scrolling through items.

Also, in battle, selecting the bag menu takes a sec to load, unlike the retail card.

you are playing a rom, get used to it

i bought a retail cartridge because i was fed up with the lags.
