Pocket Physics v0.2
Crayon physics for DS

Tobius Weyand has released an update to his now quite popular Crayon Physics clone for DS. This new version introduces a "Pin" function, standby mode, and hopefully better stability. Download below and changelog below.

[title:Changelog] * Pins! Pin things to the background or pin two things together
* Numerical fixes in Box2d => (Hopefully) better stability
* Removed dynamic timestep adjustment => Subjectively slower, but more reproducible results
* Standby mode

Nice homebrew thing (what catergory does it fit in? Application, Game, Port?). Hopefully less random crashes will happen on my R4. Seems like there will be some solid and consistent updates from the developer.

Seems to be alot more stable. Its not crashed on me yet. This is turning into probably the best homebrew for the DS (for me anyway), its just so fun to mess around with.

I tried the PC version of crayon physics today as well, and I have to say, I think this is much better than the PC version, with the fact you can create things other than just boxes.

The new PIN mode is brilliant.

It is not a port, since it's not using any code from the original game, only the idea. It's not an application either, because it doesn't have any practical value (using the narrower definition of 'application', since application is essentially any digital code), it's more of a fun toy, therefore - the best definition is a game.

Back to topic; my brother will be very happy to see this, hopefully Tobias won't drop the project soon.

It's crashed on my R4 twice already

Hopefully this gets fixed soon.

And yes, the Pin option does make the game a bit funner.

I found that trying to pin a solid (red) object to the "paper" crashes it.

(Don't ask what I was thinking... =P )

EDIT: Another thing. If you draw something like an 8 or ?, the object will not be deletable (unless by "destroy the world") and the object will not move, not if it's red or blue. Also, objects will be able to pass through it, they don't collide.

When I first read about it the concept didn't interest me much, but I took it for a spin last night and it's really good. You wouldn't believe how addictive moving around a screenful of still and moving objects can be, and the physics... well I am in awe. Very impressive little piece of kit

Stability is far better now for me, and the pins are very fun to mess with, I hope he can implement some sort of zoom function to maximize the "playing" area in the next version.

I think I read that someone also made this game for the iPhone. I love the DS version, but I'd like to try the other one. Now I just need to get my hands on a free iPhone. =P
