PlayStation's Play At Home initiative lets users keep Uncharted and Journey for free

g3uJ4p8.png

With the record amount of gamers stuck at home, PlayStation is ready to help out, by offering two games to PS4 users for free. Both Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Journey will be free to download and play for a limited time as part of the Play At Home initiative. The best part, is that you get to keep the games, too, permanently. Be sure to grab both games from the PlayStation Store starting on April 15th, or until the promotion ends, on May 5th. That isn't the only thing that PlayStation is doing, either, as the Play At Home initiative also means Sony will be donating $10 million dollars to indie game developers that are struggling as a result of COVID-19.

Question: Is this only for people with a PSNow or PSPlus account? I don't have either, and was curious if I still qualify. I'm not that interested in Journey, but I've never played an Uncharted game and I've been kind of curious if the series was any good.

I wonder how it works when you already have Uncharted Collection on your account through Plus. Will it keep available after my subscription ends?

Trust me I totally understand you but for the vast majority they either bought this or got it for free on PS Plus service . Maybe they should have just gave PS Now for free for 2 months or PS Plus for free for 2 months and extended PS Now or PS Plus for the current users for 2 months during the pandemic. To me that's very beneficial and no gamer would complain about that. Xbox didn't give us anything that is true. I know the thought that counts but the game selection wasn't good selection.

PS Now isn't available worldwide.

So for those of us that haven't owned a PS4, how do these kind of temporary giveaways or PS+ games work with respect to your account? Do you just have to "unlock" them and then you can download them from your account at any time, any system? Or do you have to download it to your console and then keep it safely installed there after the free period?

You simply activate them on Sony's web store to your account, you don't actually have to download the games if you don't want to, or even own any Sony console either (though it'd be weird to have PS+ but no console :P). Once activated, the games are bound to your account for good. For PS+, you can only play them while your PS+ subscription is active (so if you cancelled, any PS+ game you grabbed can't be played, but if you re-subscribe you can play any PS+ title you grabbed beforehand).

For free giveaways like this, the games are permanently yours to keep, no strings attached, no PS+ required. Simply head to Sony's web store, add them to your cart, and once you checkout they're yours.

It's just not a AAA title. The Uncharted Collection - even though just being remakes - is a collection of 3 AAA titles.

Its less about being upset but having Knack 2 as a substitute only for two countries is weird. I could see China, they probably have special rules about games so Uncharted may not be available there, but the game is available in Germany, so it seems even weirder they would excempt that country.

So, let me get this straight. Instead of everyone getting the game for free forever, they should get two months of a service...
And no, it is not a valid assumption to say that "the vast majority" already bought the game. Whether or not its already part of the services is irrelevant, as once those services expire, you lose access to the game. 2 free months of a service is not in any way equivalent to those games being owned permanently.

i dont think people realize that only like 30-40% of all ps4 owners actually are subscribed to ps+

some people are complaining-- i saw some crazy entitled posts on the ps blog-- and they're not realizing that for people that cant afford plus, or the games, this is awesome

personally i missed journey (have it for ps3 but heard its looks more stunning on ps4 if that's even possible), which also brings up the point that this is a good opportunity for some ps+ members to get games they missed as well

Never had interest in the Uncharted series, still wish Naughty Dog will return to making platformers...
But if it's free, can't say no to that. Maybe someone will eventually want to play it in my household. Doubt it will be me though.

Games for free for a limited time, but ties you into a contract unless you cancel within 30 days.

And taking advantage of the current situation as if your doing something good is a piss take

If you'd payed attention, it starts on 8pm PDT today. That's still 15h away.
Thats why I asked the post only says April 15th so one would assume at midnight

"Be sure to grab both games from the PlayStation Store starting on April 15th, or until the promotion ends, on May 5th"
