After many rumors, leaks, and speculation, Sony has finally announced their multiplayer brawler, Playstation All-Stars Battle Royal.

The footage of the game (viewable at the source) shows off some of the characters, such as Fat Princess, Kratos from God of War, Colonel Radec from Killzone, PaRappa the Rapper, and Sly Cooper, among many others. Stages such as Hades from God of War, Sandover Village from Jak and Daxter, Metropolis from Ratchet and Clank, and Dreamscape from LittleBigPlanet were also shown.

Gameplay wise, it appears the game is not too far off from Nintendo's similar brawler franchise, Super Smash Bros., with key characters from Sony's franchises duking it out on a 2D battlefield. However, there are some differences. Unlike in Super Smash Bros. where you can fling a damaged opponent offscreen with almost any decently powerful. In the Playstation game, you need to fill an AP bar, that goes up to three levels. Each level produces a different attack of different power, with points only scoreable by these AP attacks.

As mentioned before, a video of the gameplay can be seen below, and more info will come with soon. However, it is currently announced for the Playstation 3, no Vita has been mentioned yet.

Kinda sad that the only char from the list that I know of is Kratos. xP
Although it would be kinda cool having chars like Jak and Ratchet, although several other series like Spyro, Crash MGS aren't really Sony's exclusive, so I wonder which chars it'll have (they'll get some third party ones, just wondering which ones would be).

Aside from that, the game does seem interesting, but I'd rather if it had a version for the Vita as well, I find that playing these games on the go could be extremely fun for a time killer. =O

That's just sad, it's a statement of lack of creativity of the utmost level.

Another attempt at Sony to cash in on copying Nintendo

Could it look any more than a forced Smash Bros. clone? It's like they're not even trying to be original anymore.

I'll pass... They should do something with Little Big Planet only, not with many sony characters.

Edit: They are messing with God of War again. This is not good at all to the series.

from what i see

the bar by each char, is your special level (3 different level, 1,2,3)

1=strong attack
2=super attack
3="super smash" attack

it look like it may be a fun game

why is are people making a big deal that is a SSB clone

the SSB game works

so why not make a game like it

also
there will NOT be just 1st party Sony char. in the game
they will be 3rd party chars in the game as well

Man, that game is all bad.

It looks like they stripped down, re-skinned, and slightly modified Ragdoll Kung Fu.

What's with the closed stages? From the video it looks like that it will be a mindless buttonsmashing shitfest. I might as well play Brawl in stamina mode on a custom box stage.

Sorry, no other way to say it but...

SHIT, SHIT, TWENTY POUNDS OF SHIT.

And did you see the fighting mechanics? Fighting and fighting (no killing/K.O.-ing) until you build your meter up to Level 3, then, ACTIVATE FINAL SMA-err... AP ATTACK THAT INSTA-KILLS CHARACTERS.

And let it be noted that, again, you can ONLY kill other players with the Level 3 AP Attack. No other time in the match can you kill opponents, only when you use your Level 3 meter attack.

Its like Sony just took the Smash Ball mechanic, injected a meter-building system, made it the only way to kill anybody (why?), threw some bland characters in, created even blander mash-up stages (LBP+Buzz, dohoho...), and churned out Sony Smash Bros.

This game looks fucking terrible. I hope they change things, a LOT of things. Pathetic.

    @K3Nv2 Snow Day is pretty fun. My only bitch would be the camera controls, when you move around, say down, you have to move the right stick left or right to get camera to turn and get your view, other than that I like it so far.

    From what people say pvp isn't even worth it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    I just been playing offline, and they give you a few bots here n there on your team to help battle. I don't think it's as funny as the other games tho, more battle oriented than humor, which kinda sucks, but I'm still early in it
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    @BigOnYa, doesnt the game have a campaign mode?
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Yea, and co-op, but you can also start a pvp session and battle just with friends. You get special skill cards (powers) the more you play. And higher value cards, but you can only enable so many cards at a time.
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    If you can find enough for it
  • BigOnYa @ BigOnYa:
    Toilet paper is considered the money, you collect and buy stuff with TP, kinda funny. Graphics are def better than the other games tho, I think they used Unity 5 engine.

    I bet most people at the time still watched it in black and white
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    @Xdqwerty, Many of them did before colour television was common.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
    Likely because black and white TV was in-expensive.

  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    It certainly wasn't inexpensive it cost the same as a new car back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    How much did a 1965 color TV cost?

    For example, a 21-inch (diagonal) GE color television in 1965 had an advertised price of $499, which is equal to $4,724 in today's dollars, according to the federal government's inflation calculator.

    @K3Nv2, take into consideration how economy was back then
  • K3Nv2 @ K3Nv2:
    Yeah that's why they listed inflation rates
