It's time to see what surprise PlayStation has in store for the future, with its PS5 Technical Presentation broadcast. Will we see a PS5 Pro? Or will it be something unexpected? Cerny kicks off by going back to the PlayStation 5's launch, detailing the hardware in the system, and how it was an improvement from the PlayStation 4. Graphics, sound, haptics.

Developers have been wanting more, though. Having to choose between fidelity and performance mode has been an issue. Performance mode has been 75% more popular.

He casually drops PS5 Pro's announcement.

A larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, AI-driven upscaling, and more.

This improves the framerate performance for current PS5 games, with higher quality graphics.

He claims it's double the power of PS5.

We get to see a showcase of better graphics and smoother framerates in first-party PS5 games.

Ray-tracing has seen a large upgrade. Better reflections, shadows, and background details.

November 7 launch, for $699.99.

Confirmed separately on the PlayStation Blog was the fact that the system will NOT be launching with a disc drive, which you'll be able to buy separately for $79.99.

The only reason I can think of that it's kinda worth it if:

You don't own a PS5 and if the pro gets hacked day 1 and exploit comes out day 1 and dual boot original OS and Steam OS, have native RetroArch app on PS5 Pro, porting PSP homebrew games, make custom servers, because f.ck Sony.

No ways many people will buy the PS5 PRO, this is insane....ALSO PS5 PRO STILL can't read PS2, PS3, PS4 (all) games ^^
No REAL use, also, the games made for PS5 could run on PS4, ALL OF THEM except maype a hand number!!!!

I just looked that page over. That's a damn good idea and the price is right for a Series S plus gamepass ultimate for 2 years. $648 for 24 months of the subscription service plus the Xbox Series S to keep is a decent deal...

Remember when consoles were bundled with real games? Sometimes 2 or 3 games were included. Actual games you could play, not d/l 500G and giving away your personal info to play.

Actually every Pro comes with Astro Bot pre installed. It just happens to be one of the best PS5 games, although I have no idea how it showcases the new console.

As far as I understand, and maybe I'm wrong, but the game doesn't use ray tracing at all. So the Pro's 2x RT performance does nothing in this case. What's left is the stronger GPU and PSSR, but isn't Astro Bot already hitting 4k60? Unless they plan to push 8k60 or 4k120, then the game will pretty much not utilize anything Pro offers.

Exactly, it's pretty much flawless on the base model. I can only assume they are trying to sell consoles but most people seem more bothered by the omission of the stand.

It's expensive but also it's not really for casuals. They're selling refurbished PS5 on their main site for half the price ($350) so if anyone wanted a cheaper option.... you know what to do.

That being 700 for no drive, stand or anything is just sad.

And then I'll be able to play improved Bloodborne and Demon's Souls. Worth it for that alone, not to mention the upgrades that GTA6 and FF7 Part 3 will certainly get on Pro. Presumably FF16 will get an update too, I still have the DLC to play through on that. Also GT7 patched for Pro is gonna look amazing in VR.

Last but not least the entire PS4 library gets upscaled by PS5 Pro. Big bonus right there.

Having said all this, I do think they probably priced it $100 too high. But I get it, it's a premium product, they're gonna price it with higher margins than the base model.

Hmmm, I guess maths or logic isn't your strong point - it would be $350 + your PS5 (which is worth $350), so you still end up paying out around $700 to own a box that can play the same games you can already play.

You may as well just buy a second hand steam deck + switch 2 (when that comes out).
