PlayStation 5 Pro announced, will cost $699 / £699 / €799

It's time to see what surprise PlayStation has in store for the future, with its PS5 Technical Presentation broadcast. Will we see a PS5 Pro? Or will it be something unexpected? Find out now, because the 9-minute livestream is kicking off now. We'll be summarizing the event as it airs, to stay tuned.

Cerny kicks off by going back to the PlayStation 5's launch, detailing the hardware in the system, and how it was an improvement from the PlayStation 4. Graphics, sound, haptics.

Developers have been wanting more, though. Having to choose between fidelity and performance mode has been an issue. Performance mode has been 75% more popular.

He casually drops PS5 Pro's announcement.

A larger GPU, advanced ray tracing, AI-driven upscaling, and more.

This improves the framerate performance for current PS5 games, with higher quality graphics.

He claims it's double the power of PS5.

We get to see a showcase of better graphics and smoother framerates in first-party PS5 games.

Ray-tracing has seen a large upgrade. Better reflections, shadows, and background details.

November 7 launch, for $699.99.

Confirmed separately on the PlayStation Blog was the fact that the system will NOT be launching with a disc drive, which you'll be able to buy separately for $79.99.

Quite a few people are saying that you can build an equivalent or better PC for less, but I don't think that's true at all. PC component prices went through the roof and we've been getting ripped off for years now. Here in UK, you'd blow 90% of the budget on just the SSD and GPU. Speaking of which, there isn't even an equivalent GPU since RDNA4 hasn't been released yet, and it won't do PSSR anyway. You would probably have to go with a 4070 which obviously will be better than the PS5 Pro, but then the total cost will be at least a couple hundred more too.

I still think it should've been £599 at the most (including disc drive), but the PC stuff isn't accurate to say right now.

You could build a decent PC with second-hand parts if you don't care about the latest games. Can get a 1080ti for pretty damn cheap now and throw it into a ryzen system. Card is a beast for older stuff but newer games with raytracing etc will suffer. If you went new parts the cost of the GPU alone is the same as the base console, at least here.

Just bought a Xbox One for 70€.
It plays all my mkv/avi through KODI like a charm. So long PS3's showtime !

It also runs goldenEye64 and every Halo, all a gentleman's need.

Scalpers will pile on them and fail because nobody will ever buy the PS5 Pro. Let them suffer in their own filth.
I hope scalpers buy loads of PS5 Pro units because then no one buys it and they end up stuck with it. Or sell it at a loss. 😆

The VHS-looking Xbox One? That feels a bit overpriced for it, a bit more and you perhaps could've gone with the Xbox One X.

You may be right.
It may not be the discount of the century, but I exclusively play on the go, so I couldn't have enjoyed a better version.

Just imagine a VHS player with embedded 1 or 2To of the best classic movies along with a gorgeous remote controller ?
That's what appeals to me. Games ? Steam deck all the way.

Have you tried FromSoftware's unfamous 'steel battalion' on Xbox360 ?
Now that's an experience the SD cannot offer.

I totally forgot about that game as it was Kinect-only, but does look interesting.

I bought a Kinect for my 360 earlier this year so might buy the game if I see it.

I want to know if the 2 tb ssd in the pro is upgradable (unlike the ps5) and haven't heard if there is a 2nd ssd port like the original. Would also be nice to actually see the spec sheet and not just their half ass explanation of the actual differences.

I think there's supposed to be a proper presentation about the Pro soon as that preview was indeed stupidly brief and did a really poor job of showing the upgrades.

Back then there were more console exclusives. Now? Not so many.
Hardly any. They include stuff like TLoU 2 as an exclusive, but come on that's on PS4 and PC.

Astro Bot Playroom? Tech demo.

Meanwhile, PS3 actually had a lot of awesome exclusives. Want one? Heavenly Sword! I still don't know how that never got a sequel.

Yep I wanted to buy a ps5 to play FF7 rebirth, but after looking at ps5 library, I decided to wait until the PC release is coming.

Does anyone see the problem here:

PS5-Pro-vs-PS5-920x518.jpg

Some parents may end up spending $700+ while they're told they're buying a PS5 Slim. I agree there, it does look like a PS5 Slim (with three stripes).

I built a quite better specced PC for 1400€ a year ago. I don't think one should spend that much to get PS5 Pro specs today anyway. Even so I don't think you would get the same specs as the PS5 Pro for 799€, you will have to pay some extra price. But I don't think I would spend that much in a closed system anyway, at that price point I would just pay a little extra for my freedom.
