i was wondering if it is possible to run Videos off an SD card? if so what file types can you play and are there any disadvantages? also which program do you use?

it is, but you would be better off running video (avi, mpeg, vob) from a usb drive with geexbox.

I've noticed when watching higher quality movies (DVD Rips) a USB drive doesn't transfer fast enough and seem to stop and get a really weird noise.(I've tried a couple of USB drives and it seems like a common problem.)

SD cards work really well though.
