As long as the connection is stable enough to support it, it will work fine.

Not necessarily. The 3DS, for example, doesn't work well with many, if any at all, phone hotspots. Nintendo released their own thether app in Japan for it.

    Look, just test it yourself.

Performance on a wireless connection varies because a lot of variable is in play here. Only by testing it yourself will you know for sure the answer.

    I do.
I've used the wireless hotspot to download games.
Online multi-player should be no different, provided you have a stable wireless connection.

    "worth it" is purely subjective.
If you happen to jizz yourself every time nintendo makes an announcement, then it probably isn't.
If you are a weeb, than it certainly will be.

Myself, I've had it since launch and I think it is the best portable gaming system ever.
I'm kind of bummed that there will not be many games that will take advantage of the
systems capabilities, but it has plenty of worthwhile games and the ratio of good : crap
games lean heavily in the systems favor.

I'm enjoying my vita. And I have no problems using my iphone hotspot for online play (I don't have problems with 3ds on this connection either for that matter). Maybe it's because I have a very strong 4G signal where I live?

A mobile hotspot would work as good as a normal connection. Your main issue would be your data plan though.

Note that not all Vita games actually play on the Playstation TV
