Gaming Play Fifa 11 on school network

Me and my friend have the exact same (pirated) version of Fifa 11 and we are both surfing on the same network at school.
We want to play Fifa 11 against each other on school but we don't seem to find each other. We have both checked our firewalls and they don't interfere.
Is there any way to play via LAN against each other (because online is of course not an option)

Some schools has blocked connecting to each other PCs to prevent malware from spreading.

First, try pinging each other with ping utility in command-line.

If you can't ping each other, then try typing "ipconfig /release", then again "ipconfig /renew" to renew IP. Try pinging each other again.

If that does not work, your school has probably some outside firewall. Try then connecting via LAN cable directly to the router.

If that does not work, then well.....

Try making an ad-hoc network if you are close to each other

. That will probably work

Lucky. You can play games (without getting caught of course). At the school library, I got my computer shut off for checking my grades online. (I was supposed to be typing something in Word)

I can't wait until we go to the library again (at school) I loaded my USB with ultrasurf. I'll see if youtube works. Then I'll try to not get caught.

We tried pinging each other, no luck.
We didn't try that ipconfig /release and /renew though, we'll try again soon.

We can't access any router but I just found a cross over cable and we'll try to plug it into one UTP port and in to the other laptop's UTP port. That should do it I think, else there's a problem with the game.

I'll of course let you guys know how it went.

@ Aijelsop: We can do just about everything on the school network, you should see how much is downloaded every day, it must be near a 750GB a day, it's amazing.

Well it turns out there's a problem with the game. We connected our laptops via a cross-over cable and in-game we found each other's lobbies. But whenever we tried to enter a lobby, Fifa gave us a time-out error after about 5 seconds.
We tried Googling but nothing came up, they all recommended us to use GameRanger of Hamachi, but I don't understand how it doesn't work? We can find each other, both have the exact same version of the game and are sitting next to each other. Is it really impossible to play via LAN with this shitty game without having to resort to third party applications?

If I remember correctly, you need less than 30ms ping between each computer to join lobbies or you would get time-out.

Ping each other computer and see if you get less than 30 ms. If not, then there is something on your computer that is "lagging" your LAN connection.

I just ended up taking my 360 controller to school and played against my friend with that instead of installing other applications and all.

LAN is not the same as Intranet. Some schools will have every computer rerouted through central servers. LAN gaming is typically impossible under that setup unless they allow it, and even that is a pain to configure (as I discovered after hacking into the first 2 servers at my school).

Also, on most school networks its easy to find out if someone is playing games/downloading things they shouldn't be. How they deal with it depends on the school policy. I never did get to find out how the school dealt with a certain class that would download illegal stuff (including porn) for half the week every week. When I showed the Admin the proof of this (whilst hacking the system in front of his eyes), he turned very pale but didn't say anything.
