Is soldering an overall hard process? It seems straight forward, but I've never done it and if I buy a Wii and mod it, this is the scary part

But I have a feeling once I learn and do it, imma be modding everything!! I would love to be able to play some import/downloaded Saturn games

nah soldering is a fairly easy process overal, it just takes a steady hand and patients at times

I would suggest finding something to practice on first and flux is your best friend

good luck

my mod is attached with some electrical tape, and has another piece over the top ( not shown ) to hold things down

I actually used some hot glue gun to glue mine, I placed a bit and while it was still hot, I pressed the wiikey against it. nice and neat, it's pretty tough also.

I have a question.

When solder, do you touch the tip of the solder tool at the board first? then follow by the flux?

or both together? or just melt the flux?

or touch the tip of the solder tool to the wire then flux without touching the board(only flux and wire touch the board) ?

Thats a hot glue booger holding the pcb down for easy soldering. Not the kind of soldering I love to do or joints I'm proud of but its functional.

This was my first ever mod chip install, pretty happy it all went smooth after looking at some of the disasters ive seen posted on the forums.

Damn that chip looked small when i first saw it though.

Nice work. Mine looks the same (even the mounting tape under the Wiikey) except I routed the wires out a little bit further around the corners of the DVD pcb instead of behind the molex connector. That spot is perfect for the Wiikey. I assume you put some more electrical tape on top of the Wiikey before you sealed it up?

Sorry for going off topic but what size of wires do you use? I guess if I'm stingy, I could use the wires from my broken NES controller.... you know... a nintendo in a nintendo. It's not like I see any use for a long roll of wire anyways

I didnt put any tape on the wiikey actually, there was quite a distance between it and the GC controller port once it was put back together and the 3M double sided foam tape i used is like super glue. Seriously i dont think it will ever come out even if i want it too, ill just have too snip the wires and leave it in there if i ever want to upgrade later.

I got my pictures coming tomorrow... but I'll just preface with you guys are all photoshop f-ing liars. Soldering doesn't look that good :wtf:. Mine looks like BALLS, and was AWFUL, and TOOK FOREVER... but dammit, its done, and it works... I'm just hoping my joints are strong enough they won't pop out over time/travel
