Persona 5 Royal gets its western release date in a new trailer

It’s time to steal hearts, all over again, in Persona 5 Royal, which was just given its western release date. The game, which has already released in Japan, will add extra gameplay and story content, along with new characters. Atlus will be releasing the game both physically and digitally, as well as a collector’s edition. Persona 5 Royal will release for the PlayStation 4 next year, on March 31st.

Why is it Persona 5 Scramble gets a Switch release and Persona 5 The Royal is PS4 exclusive? It can't be a hardware issue...

I don't think it's ever been specifically confirmed, but it seems like Sony has exclusivity for the mainline Persona games. Spin-offs have made it to other consoles no problem, but none of the main games or their remakes have been on anything other than a PlayStation console.

There is actually a PC port of Revelations: Persona (P1) that came out a couple years after the PS1 version.

Ah yes, the game that Atlus teased Switch owners over because they're too damn lazy to make P5 not exclusive.
wouldn't it be easier to port the game than make a whole new one, sony obviosly has an exclusivity deal on main line persona titles, but whenever that expires expect a P4G / P5R switch bundle

Persona isn't PlayStation exclusive. Persona Q and Persona Q2 are on 3DS.

What I think people are saying is that Sony is paying ATLUS extra money to keep Persona exclusive to their systems. Otherwise, it'd be like with Yakuza now being released everywhere. Forget Majima Everywhere, it's now Yakuza Everywhere!

Exclusivity (especially console exclusivity, or any other sort of third party by-contract setup ; first party is still an issue but slightly less odious ) really needs to end ASAP. This is very disappointing that there isn't a PC version of P5R announced thus far. Japanese titles once confined to consoles have slowly but surely been making their way to PC thanks to both Steam's features + low cost of publishing vs console along with strong support form the player base. I had hoped that Atlus, assuming they're still under Sega's control, would be told to release P5R and other titles to PC ASAP, as Sega as done very well bringing series like the Valkyria Chronicles and Yakuza titles to PC , for example. PC release is something that seems to be mutually beneficial with JP titles, so long as they're a well made port priced and delivered in a reasonable way.

I'd love to play P5R as my first P5 experience, but if it doesn't come to PC (or at very least Switch, to be emulated via Yuzu), then I'll have to content myself playing the old PS3 version via emulator ; I'm not going to buy a PS4 or any console for exclusives.

They did release Catherine on Steam at the beginning of the year, so Atlus is open to it. I don't know if maybe Catherine sold poorly on PC or there's some exclusivity reason they can't put Persona on Steam, but clearly it's something they're considering at some level.

Yeah, but it was based on the 7th generation versions and not the new version on the PS4 that pissed some SJWs off when it came overseas for localization.

Especially when they were bitching about people emulating their game on their PCs and I'm like dude just port it to PC then!

All I'd tell them as a message from the emulation community is:

That's the kind of stuff that sometimes makes we worry that emulation isn't always approved by the original publishers. Where did that bitching come from?
