PEGI re-rates Grand Theft Auto 1 and 2, but for release on the PlayStation 3

header (1).jpg

The first two Grand Theft Auto games have just been rated by the European ratings board PEGI, for an apparent release on an unexpected platform. Grand Theft Auto and Grand Theft Auto 2 appeared without warning on PEGI's site, showing both games with official age ratings--PEGI 16 and PEGI 18 respectively--but for release specifically on the PlayStation 3. What that means isn't quite clear yet, but either game has a release date of today, April 30, 2020. While the PlayStation 3 is still supported by Sony, the system itself has been discontinued since 2017.

I have the GTA Collection PS1 release with 1,2, London still. i played 2 the most tho

maybe this a re-trademark for the titles? otherwise, its rate for ps3 since it has the ps1 emulator and ps5 might have backward compat for ps1 or 3?

The first thing that crossed my mind, "why?"

Interesting what if they're planning to make a remaster of some sorts, but using the PS3 as an excuse to shock us all ?

Or maybe could end up on the Nintendo Switch too, that device needs some GTA action. I'm still surprised the studio didn't port GTA5 to the system yet as that thing ran on PS3 and Xbox 360 as well. Maybe the porting is just too much work compared to the money, lol.

They did port LA Noire to Switch probably to test the waters. Certainly it shouldn't be representative of GTA sales though, and past GTA sales on Nintendo consoles shouldn't represent the Switch consumer base. Though it's probably still safe to assume Nintendo leans toward the younger crowd.

I'm still a bit miffed we never got a San Andreas Stories. A portable GTA V would be awesome.

well sianmts row is gta style game and im guessing they got enough sales on saints row 3 to port saints row 4, so yeah seems switch userbase does like some openworld mayen games , but yeah its rockstar and if nintendo ever gets a gta game it will be a spin off gta with the exception of gta 1 and 2 released on gbc, nintendo only got chinatown wars on ds and gta advance on gba.

This is very strange, maybe they're going to use the same ps1 emulator on ps5? I hope not cause the ps3 had pretty barebones ps1 emulation, but why would they release 2 ps1 classics on a dead system?

This is really weird...
I have 2 explenations:
1. This is some kind of error like maybe they rated it for a wrong system or it's a big error meaning that the whole thing is false.
2. It's multiplatform title and ps3 version is one of few versions and pegi rated only rated ps3 version for some reason.

nope lol its for ps3, also sony already said its only ps4 bacwards compat, for other gens you need psnow.
They never said it was exclusively PS4, they just announced BC for the PS4, doesn't mean the other systems won't be supported. Also, the PS3 is discontinued. Why would they release this on the PS3 in 2020 and not the PS4?

companys like limited run games even release n64,sega megadrive cd, jaguar, anything, just becuase its rockstar does mean they didnt gave the rights so a limited print company can make one of those old releases, heck some devs even do physical releases for consoles way older than ps3.

Okay. Can you name me some N64 games that have released this year? What about the Saturn, I'm sure major devs are looking to develop for those platforms still

you clearly miss the point here. it's not about "this year" - it's about when a game was released after the systems official death.
40 Winks for one was set to be released 1999 for N64, but it got canceled. The devs kickstart funded it and released it in November 2018 - 16 Years after the Consoles death.

they dont come out every year lol and people already gave you an example 40 winks never got the port released for n64 and now 16 years latter they kickstarted it and released an official n64 cartridge and game to the original n64.

Also 1 press games released a new game boy/gameboy color game this year physicaly, there are lots of devs that still make regular game port and limited releases to dead consoles almost every year like dreamcast and atari jaguar, amiga cd 32 also got alot of limited releases and so on.

Not to mention last year limited run games released their first ps3 physical game oddworlds stramgers wrath, and after that they released oddworlds new n tasty and a full physical ps3 release for both games.
