PAX West and Aus cancelled, events to be merged into PAX Online 2020

As expected, more physical conventions have bit the dust thanks to COVID-19, with the latest cancellations being from PAX's West and Aus variants. However, also as expected, the event will be going digital, announced today, as PAX Online. You can expect to see discussions, gameplay, panels, eSports, and more during the show, which is now scheduled to run from September 12th to September 20th.

PAX Online is the result of the convention-organizing supergroup made up of the people responsible for PAX West, PAX Australia, as well as our new friends at EGX to create our new PAX Online and deliver a steady 24/7 stream of content, events, discussions, and gameplay.

Oh, and did we say 24/7 We actually meant 24/9, because we’re going to be running this virtual shindig for nine straight days, from September 12th through the 20th.

We’re sure you have questions, and you should! We waited this long to announce so that we could offer these pre-emptive answers to how, exactly, we’re going to pull this off:

There are tons of vaccines being created by various companies and governments around the world, but none of them are likely to prove effective in testing for some time yet. Best we have right now is a steroid that reduces lung inflammation and increases survival rate of those on a ventilator by around 20%, but even that requires a lot more further testing.

Nothing wrong with having hope, but we also have to balance that with pragmatism.

Even then, it's totally possible that an effective vaccine will take years to develop, if not decades. We shouldn't take one for granted.
