question, i used to downgrade my 3ds to 4.5 months ago.. it's better to upgrade before installing this cfw?

Its more of a launcher but from what I see in the first post it works on 4.5 give it a shot if it does not work no harm no foul.

It works on the firmwares listed on page one:

It works on N3DS 9.0-9.2 and O3DS 4.1-4.5 / 8.0-8.1 / 9.0-9.2.

I was on 4.5 and updated using Super Smash Bros to 9.2 since more games will run on that. Whatever firmware you decide to run it on is the firmware you are limited by.

I understand why PastaCFW's existence might threaten Karl3DS. But if the devs choose to drop the project, that will be because they chose that path. I would hope people wouldn't simply make PastaCFW and the poster of it the scapegoat here. Perhaps the best thing that could come of this is that Karl3DS does come out and has a lot more features and can stand on it's own without sig checks patched out. If they really believe this PastaCFW thing is going to fizzle out, then prove it. Work on Karl3DS and when you think it's ready, release it and prove them wrong. Isn't that how competition works? Generally that results in a better product at the end of the day and at least now Gateway and company doesn't have a monopoly anymore and I would have thought that's better then before. Of coarse I personally don't believe Karl3DS will be canceled because of this.

I haven't read anywhere that Karl3DS would be canceled or suffer harm by the words of the devs working on it. Seems like a lot of fear mongering and speculation. This has dragged on too long. I think this will be my last post here on this subject. On to better things I would hope. :D

KARL will be released (maybe) in 2018, there are only random videos so far and today it is just an imaginary CFW

Honestly the easiest way to upgrade for me was to find a Super Smash Bro with the update. There is another way but I was to scared that I would frack it up. I would just try pasta on whatever firm you have now you can always upgrade later.

ok, and the easiest way to update to 9.2? i only have cubic ninja..

Look at firmware versions on http://3ds.essh.co/ and buy the cheapest cart with 9.2 (you can type 9.2 into the search box)
There are other ways, but they're all risky.
If you have a NAND backup of 9.x you can restore it though, I would recommend going that route. But as long as you have at least 7.0 you can run pretty much any game except Xenoblade by running them through DevMenu or NTR-CFW (NTR-CFW can be launched from within PastaCFW), so restoring NAND backup is not a bad idea even if your backup is a bit lower than 9.0.

I read that there are two ways to play GBA ROMs on 3DS. One via injecting to official VC games but with very crappy compatibility. The other method is to inject GBA Ambassador games. Those aren't emulated but ARM9 is downclocked to behave like an ARM7 from a GBA. Is that right?

Actually from what I've been told, Arm11 is what is doing the GBA stuff. Arm9 only ever runs Process9.
