So PastaCFW is based on bootstrap? Big whoop de do dah! Isn't that the point of releasing it in the first place? So others can base new stuff on it? As I recall Yifan_Lu did his reverse engineering so that others can learn and use that information. So I don't understand why the big salt party over this using their work. That's how open source stuff kinda works so of coarse something that might allow piracy inevitably comes along that uses it. Like getting angry over creating a Lego set and some kid comes along and builds a giant d**k with it. Sure it might be offensive to you, but you put out the lego set so that just about anything can be done with it. You even knew that there's plenty of kids out there just wanting to make big ***ks with it. So it's time to own up to the downsides too. Don't get worked up and flame over silly crap like this.

The way I see things is that I can understand the mentality of not trying to contribute to piracy. But here's the beef I have. Some devs here like to post photos and other things of them running unsigned stuff and or showing off things they likely never intend to share and spew the usual "code it yourself" mantra. The fact is, GBATEMP is not a community of coders and hard core programmers. So what is the point in doing this? Not everyone can just get out of bed and go "I'm learning ARM Assembly today!". It's not that simple.

For example, someone posted photos of them having apparently successfully injecting GBA games into GBA VC stuff despite the fact that AGB_FIRM apparently has signature checks. They did so without even attempting to explain how it was done. Nope, keep it all secret and troll others with your great stuff. It only comes off as ego stroking in my mind. Sure you're a better programmer then I'll ever be, but does that give you the right to post crap like that and look down on others like you are some **king king?

Don't get angry if you spark a flame war when you post things like that. You should know this community by now. It's like going up and whacking the bee hive and wondering why all the pissed off bees are stinging you. Some common sense is needed here. I usually stay quiet with matters like this, but I'm speaking up in hopes that maybe people can be a bit more civil. I don't really understand why there has to be a rivarly between Pasta and Karl. It's complete nonsense and there's more important things to argue about like world hunger or ISIS or something. This is just forum cancer.

That is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better that it could be.
There aren't liars in the 3DS scene, or fake photoshops, or whatever.

tldr

no but serious you are right the "devs" have waved *it* around for long enough and now they're mad that other people can do what they can (mostly).

I'm quite happy with my GW and Sky3DS
Very good products
Each lets me do stuff differently

Sky3DS did cost me an arm and a leg though (before I was able to order OOT from BB)
but it's repaying me with CN usage...

I can't say I'm happy to have bootstrap being used in heirchy with this, but that's the risk I chose with releasing it I guess.

If it makes you feel any better, think of all the good things that have come from bootstrap! Sound on the New 3DS, NAND decryption, title installation... so much of the homebrew scene, particularly on the New 3DS, essentially exists because of your code.

Wait so basically...
GW is now mostly useless?

You can just grab a 16+GB SD Card and use that to install CIA galore and run them through Pasta CFW without the need of emuNAND or anything else?
Is that it?

BTW, I just managed to install my Four Swords CIA into my N3DS! :D
Screw you Nintendo and your fucking System transfer. I will have Four Swords in both my O3DS and my N3DS now. .l.

I would rather try and stay civil myself, so no thanks. I probably could get away with it, but it makes me no better then the other flamers if I go out hard with the curse words and stuff. Even in arguments I believe a certain level of respect must be maintained. I may disagree with some of the morals/actions of some devs. But I won't disrespect them or the rules of this board just to make a point.

That is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better that it could be.

Perhaps not. Maybe some of the Karl devs feel the leaker or whoever originally built this is being credited too highly for something they apparently see as a simple task and not deserving of the praise. Sure I understand that. But it doesn't really matter if the achievement of this CFW was "8 bytes of code". The fact is until today, one either had to buy an $80 device from a shady company or use something leaked ages ago that is outdated as hell. Sure on at technical level it's not that great. But it allows a lot of users to do things they couldn't do before. That's certainly more then I could have done even if knew how the patch worked, I probably couldn't have rigged boostrap to boot this myself either. Which kinda of underscores that having great power (like extensive programming knowledge) can warp how one sees others.

I have somewhat extensive computer knowledge and know how to fix things and stuff. Even I can get a little annoyed at some folks who know no where near as much I do get caught up in what I see as simple tasks. But in the end what's simple for me won't be simple for the next person. So I try not to talk down to people in this situation. They didn't know any better and wouldn't deserve that.

Perhaps it would help that some devs can see it like that as well.

First they insulted the 3dbrew devs, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a 3dbrew dev.
Then they insulted the GW team, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not part the GW team.
Then they insulted the KARL team, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not part of the KARL team.
Then they released Pasta CFW—and there was no real 3ds dev left to further develop for it...

pretty much now people are just waiting for Emunand support and not even 9.7 it can be 9.0-9.2 since we can spoof eShop access.

Then emuNAND 9.7 is not really needed as of right now, with a simply eShop spoof feature in Pasta CFW shall be enough, right?

Yup the only downside that comes to mind is not being able to run newer titles that may require new encryption. Dont quote me on this but didnt region 3 bypass the need for game updates?

Don't kill me for asking this but how are people installing FBI or DevMenu on this without a Gateway card?

FBI has version that can be launched from Cubic Ninja in the same way that PastaCFW is booted. So people are using that to install things. (usually by just installing DevMenu and such).

Now the trick is, if you have not installed DevMenu and such, you would have to boot Cubic Ninja twice. first you use it to start PastaCFW. Then you start Cubic Ninja again to start FBI. THEN you can use FBI to install unsigned CIAs.

Because if you jump the shark and try FBI before booting into PastaCFW, it will give you an error when you attempt to install something like DevMenu or BigBlueMenu.
