And I used to think making a smiley face on a pancake with chocolate syrup was high art.

I'm a math teacher on leave for awhile to focus on my children. My family moved to Saipan last summer so my wife, a nurse-midwife, could deliver babies. The silly pancakes began earlier this year as a way to entertain the kids.

Pfft, no penis pancake? Laaame.

There was one, but then it became a eunuch.

Is there a special pan or something used for these, or even something in between the batter and the hot plate to allow varying temperatures through (to allow some areas to be darker and others not)?

He draws the lines of batter onto the pan using a baster. The lines he draws first cook longer so they end up darker.

Here's a video tutorial:

That was really cool. Takes a little planning ahead.

Anyways, this is pretty cool. I love food art.

You could go to any and every highschool cooking class when they make shapeable cooked goods.
Me and my cooking partner had the best rocket ship pancakes ever.
