I love this system. Mind you, I dont have one but I know alot about it and have been following it for several months now and I really want one. I'm thinking of waiting to get one now because, there is a new Dev. Handheld coming out this year and it may render it obsolete. I'm not trying to be "high tech" I really only want it to run free games and roms for all my old favorites. the only turn off for me is the batteries. I think it needs to have a rechargable battery pack included with the system.

Pandora's gonna have a rechargable battery [IMG]
What do you gals--and guys--think of Gp2x and if you have one, which model do you like better?

    F100 vs F200?

Also, what other open source Handhelds are out there and which ones do you own?

I remember something called the JXD or some such name--is it still made? Is it any good?
What do you guys think of the Pandora?

The F200 is a better machine, not least of which for the touch screen ... if you can get the docking unit, too ... which adds 4 USB ports and monitor connectivity, it's even better ...

JXD is a company, not a device ... you are probably thinking of the JXD 301, which is not open-sourced, but is a very versatile player ... of games, music, images & movies.

Many Chinese companies make virtually identical devices, by the way.

The new GMP Blackfin is basically an upgraded JXD 301, and is a current favourite in that community ...

The Pandora is the pony to back, right now ... the developers are some of the best from the GP32, GP2X & Zodiac communities ... and it's low retail price of £199, doesn't hurt it's prospects, either.

That Pandora looks kinda hard to hold. I'd just get a PSP if all you want is retro emulators.

All the pictures of the Pandora are just mock-ups ... the final design has not been fixed.

@Bobtheevil, yeah JXD 301 sorry. I knew it was a number after the letters but for the life of me I couldn't remember and the lunch bell was closing in on me.

No, it doesn't matter ... you should see the mockup on the front page of the official project site ... that is awesome [IMG]#

This variant is cool, too ...

They aren't available for pre-order yet, as the final design isn't finished, and they have yet to set a firm, or even firm-ish, release date ...

Keep an eye on gbax.com, as the guy who runs that store is one of the Pandora's developers ...

And GBAX are really good ... they send the stuff out super-fast, and are really quick to tell you if there have been any stock delays ... they also update the stock levels on their site very quickly ...

They don't carry tons of different items, like some places, but their customer service is top-notch, and the goods always arrive next day, in flawless condition ...

I have found that a lot of places that carry Chinese & Korean gadgets do not treat the items very well, or buy from factories that clone clones, if ya know what I mean ...

Forget about the GP2X, Psp, DS. Forget about all of them, this is what happened after I got myself a UMPC with a 1.10Ghz Pentium M Processor, 512MB RAM and an 80GB hard Disk. I use an original PS2 controller with it to play all emulators at full speed. I have the full Snes set running at full speed using Zsnes, full speed CPS3, Mame, N64, ScummVM, Psx etc etc. There is simply no competition. Why no one has created a dedicated gaming UMPC I just don't know.
