Got a question. What exactly is OnLive? Is it basically the same as steam?

Not really. It's a digital distribution platform that's kinda like Steam but instead of installing the games on your computer, they're streamed to it. So basically you can play a bunch of HD, high requirement PC games on PCs with low specs (they say that most netbooks can handle it). It's quite an ingenious idea honestly and it's probably the best you'll see at this time. Personally I find that it works excellently and supporting them is a step forward.

Great answer Guild! OnLive uses an advanced video streaming technique and algorithim to stream the game video to your device (PC, Mac Android and IOS) while taking the inputs from your keyboard, mouse or game controller and sending it back to their data center so you can control your game. Its fraking awesome!

here's a quick question. how many people outside america, uk and the developed countries have at least a 2Mbps connection?

i doubt even 10% of tanzania has 1 Mbps (the common people that is)
Who cares.
This comes up in nearly all the OnLive threads.

OnLive is for people with decent speeds, which is obvious.
People with slow speeds should just stay jelly in quiet.

steam will always be my first option thanks to my shitty 3rd world internet connection.

anyway 1$ game - seriously this game is pure gold whoever has OnLive and doesn't get this (if we consider they hit the 45k milestone) then they would be quite insane.

meanwhile ill just enjoy my Batman AA GOTY that i bought for 7$ from steam.

The version being sold on OnLive is the "Game of the Year Edition" and you're right. anybody not willing to buy this game at .99 cents is a fool

After having beaten the 360 version when I rented it, this is a must-buy; my laptop can't get anything near a playable framerate on it otherwise. Still, my home internet is only 3mbps, and even when I can get it moving at close to its rated speed I've still got a 20GB/month up/download limit.

The minimum speed required is 2Mb/s. Your best bet is just to download and install the OnLive app and play around. It's totally free to just demo games all day long.

But don't you end up using far more bandwidth to play than you would have used to download the game entirely once like on Steam? Do you have both options, either download once like Steam or stream every time?

No, it's constant streaming.

It's definitely meant for people with unlimited bandwidth. Plus the main selling point is being able to play modern games on systems that would never be able to play them otherwise. Plus there's all the cloud options (basically being able to log onto almost any computer and access your entire library of games instantly).

Actually there was a few interviews with Steve Pearlman (CEO of OnLive) in which he talked about how deals were made where most ISP will not count OnLive towards your bandwidth cap. It has been confirmed multiple times with Comcast users.

plus its also fun sometimes to watch other people play a game. You can also voice chat with them. I just wish it had more big name games, but it is nice though to buy a brand new game like Deus EX for $35 with the 30% on all games discount

Onlive is definitely an option for those with high speed internet. You can build a HTPC and use Onlive to play games.

Couple downside with Onlive,

* For those who have bandwidth imposed, it can become a problem as it is streaming video to your PC.
* Subjected to internet latency.
* Cannot play fan-made mod.
