Thanks fellow, I guess it's okay to store them on the system storage as well? I've been keeping them on a terrible usb out of paranoia or something.

I try not to keep installs on my Wii U internal NAND if I can avoid it. I've always been afraid of a botched install bricking the internal NAND but if I install to the HDD, all I have to do is format it and plug it back into the Wii U to let it format it again and try installing again.
