Onimusha was such a standout throughout the 6th gen. The PS2 library was still building its momentum, so the first Onimusha was a huge standout. I haven't watched the teaser trailer, but I imagine it'll probably have a Devil May Cry V vibe. Let's hope they do the franchise justice.

Like I said in the game awards thread, I hope they don't turn it into a soulslike. The trailer has me a bit concerned. I've waited so long for a new Onimusha. Please don't be a soulslike.

I didn't think about that. Considering what it would compete with in Capcom's own catalog, I realize how complicated a new Onimusha game would be to greenlight. It must have a differentiating hook.

If a new Onimusha were linear and level-based, it'd end up being too similar to Devil May Cry. A game that goes back to the survival horror roots would be panned by modern critics for being too simple, restrictive, etc. The environments looked pretty open in the trailer. So, I could see a more Metroidvania approach with an emphasis on swordplay. That concept does lend itself to a Souls-like, and Capcom may see it as an opportunity to add that kind of game to their portfolio.

I definitely want to know more details. Even a few bulletpoints might give away what direction the dev team is taking with it.
