First of all, I would like to say Thanks for the "CompleteSoftmodGuide". It is very helpful.

I am in the process of updating my wii from 4.0u to 4.2u.
I followed the CompleteSoftmodGuide to finish "The basics" & "Trucha bug" sections.

I am at the "Update" section.
When using the latest version of NUS Auto Downloader (version 4.1.4), I got different wad file name from the guide.

In my trial, I got the following wad files (under the 'wad' folder):

4.2U_Systemmenu_v481.wad
IOS12-64-v269.wad
IOS13-64-v273.wad
IOS14-64-v520.wad
IOS17-64-v775.wad
IOS21-64-v782.wad
IOS22-64-v1037.wad
IOS28-64-v1550.wad
IOS31-64-v3349.wad
IOS33-64-v3091.wad
IOS34-64-v3348.wad
IOS35-64-v3349.wad
IOS37-64-v3869.wad
IOS38-64-v3867.wad
IOS53-64-v5406.wad
IOS55-64-v5406.wad
IOS56-64-v5405.wad
IOS57-64-v5661.wad
IOS61-64-v5405.wad
IOS70-64-v6687[FS-ES-NP].wad
IOS9-64-v778.wad
RVL-mios-v10.wad

According to the guide, I am supposed to move the following file to the SD card root:

- IOS36-64-v3351.wad (which I don't have in the 'wad' folder... I guess that's fine)
- RVL-WiiSystemMenu-vXYZ.wad (which file is this referring to????)
- IOS30/60/70 (I assume this refers to "IOS70-64-v6687[FS-ES-NP].wad"... Correct?)

Also, the NUS Auto Downloader created the following files under the "COPY_TO_SD" folder:

00000001 (folder containing 4 sub-folders)
00000025
00000026
00000039
00000101
Download_Log.md5
IOS15-64-v523.wad
IOS37-64-v3869.wad
IOS38-64-v3867.wad
IOS57-64-v5661.wad
NusAutoGuide.txt
RVL-mios-v10.wad

Do I need to copy those to the SD card as wells?

Thanks in advance

Run MMM and press install and patch IOS36.
To update your wii just go into MMM and go into wad manager. THere should be a button that says BATCH INSTALL. Press that and select all the .wads in your wad fiolder. Install them all.

THen copy the other files to the root of your sd.

if you got internet access on your pc why didn't you just download the update.zip like it says to do in the guide. your making this harder than it has to be. the zip contains only what you need for updating your softmod wii.

Just install all those wads you mentioned (the first ones, from 4.2U_Systemmenu_v481.wad to RVL-mios-v10.wad) using Wad manager/YAWMM and you should be fine.

I'd never use some random wads supplied by some guide when you can get them from nintendos servers safely and reliably.

Install ios70 first, THEN your system menu - that way if something goes wrong you can still start the wii. Install the SM before the IOS it requires and you'll be in for a dead wii if anything goes wrong.

Thanks for the quick reply.
So, I just need WadManager/YAWMM to install all those wad files inside the "wad" folder.
I don't need to use "DOP-Mii" to install IOS70 & SystemMenu as said in the guide under the "Complete Update" section?

You can install the System menu wad and IOS70 with wad manager as well
Like stated above, better install IOS70 before the System menu

I was talking about the update.zip.

I'd always use NUSD to download clean IOS direct from nintendos servers.

QUOTE(transam81 @ Jun 9 2010, 06:02 PM) i wouldn't call xzxero or his guide random either.
S/he is some random nobody on the internet. NUSD will give you IOSs just as nintendo intended. Perfect for a safe install.

wow, ok georgey boy calm down. no need to start bashing any one. i just want to say that xzxero's guide is a featured sticky in this forum, so that is a good credit to him and his guide.

i myself used it without problem on several wii's and will continue to do so.
you are correct about the CompleteSoftmodGuide (aka CompleteSG, CSG), it does offer the assurance of knowing your ios a legit.

I'm not bashing anyone. I'm sure the guide is grand, I'm sure it has helped to handwalk loads of people through modifying their wii - but in the scheme of things xzxero isn't anyone; I've never heard of them. I've heard of Nintendo though, and I know their servers are gonna be 100% sure pumping out good files.

Can I just ask why you are using a guide on multiple wiis though? I can understand someone wanting a guide their first time, if they don't understand what it is they are doing, but surely second time onwards you can do it with your eyes closed? Just curious.

ever heard the saying "measure twice, cut once". and in the grand scheme of things ninty is not nor ever will be a friend to the softmod scene.
your more likely to brick your wii updating through them, like the many who fell victim and bricked their wii from the release of ninty's official update.
so ya that is why i trust one who has done the leg work as it were, to pre-compile the the ios's that are needed to do a safe softmod.

Sorry to ask one more question to confirm: (my son will be mad at me if I brick the wii!!!)

Is this the correct order to install the wad files?
[*]IOS9-64-v778.wad[*]IOS12-64-v269.wad[*]IOS13-64-v273.wad[*]IOS14-64-v520.wad[*]IOS17-64-v775.wad[*]IOS21-64-v782.wad[*]IOS22-64-v1037.wad[*]IOS28-64-v1550.wad[*]IOS31-64-v3349.wad[*]IOS33-64-v3091.wad[*]IOS34-64-v3348.wad[*]IOS35-64-v3349.wad[*]IOS37-64-v3869.wad[*]IOS38-64-v3867.wad[*]IOS53-64-v5406.wad[*]IOS55-64-v5406.wad[*]IOS56-64-v5405.wad[*]IOS57-64-v5661.wad[*]IOS61-64-v5405.wad[*]RVL-mios-v10.wad BTW, what is this WAD file? OK to install it before IOS70?[*]IOS70-64-v6687[FS-ES-NP].wad (THIS MUST BE THE LAST IOS TO INSTALL)[*]4.2U_Systemmenu_v481.wad (THIS MUST BE THE LAST TO INSTALL)
Thanks

In terms of order, all that matters is that you install IOS70-64-v6687[FS-ES-NP].wad before4.2U_Systemmenu_v481.wad. If you use YAWMM (and I think MMM does it too) it won't install the system menu until after that IOS is installed anyways.

Technically, order for that too doesn't even matter as long as u make sure to install IOS70 before exiting the app. If you are using an older wad manager (without the brick protection features of yawmm), and you install the system menu but not the system menu IOS, then you leave the app, it will return to the homebrew channel just fine, but once you try to access the system menu, you will 'brick' (which can be fixed if you have proper brick protection in place.

But to simply answer your question, just install IOS70 first just to play it safe, order of everything else doesn't matter

and btw, that rvl-mios is an MIOS which is what the wii uses to play gamecube games
