Okami is getting a sequel, and Hideki Kamiya is back to direct

Dropped as a tease at The Game Awards was that Hideki Kamiya is back at Capcom, he had reformed his former studio named Clover--now Clovers--and is working on a sequel to 2006's beloved action-adventure game, Okami. Kamiya will be joined by other staff who worked on the original game, though it may be a while off, as there's no release ETA nor were platforms announced.

Hideki Kamiya, director of the original Okami, will be the director of this project, which is being co-developed between studios that include various staff members of the original Okami: M-TWO Inc., Machine Head Works Inc., and CLOVERS Inc. – which Hideki Kamiya is a member of. What will the new adventures of Amaterasu and company be like? It will be some time before we greet you again, but we really hope you look forward to this project.

Tried the Wii version twice and absolutely can't understand the hype around this game. Something about the gameplay or movement of the wolf feels wrong.
It is a bit annoying that all the re-releases are locked to 30 FPS, controls feel a lot tighter when it's running emulated at 60 FPS.

Wii had tons of control problems on most games
of course they did but there is a part in okami that has to be the worst thing ever put in a wii game. I'm talking about the part i call: the bastard blossoms. unless you can draw an absolute perfect circle each time 3 or 4 times in a row (i can't remember how many) the game will not register it and make you endure a failure cut scene again and again each time. it was so fucking bad i nearly snapped my wii remote in half!
and than there is the ds version there is a part where you have to draw a star while it's moving around in a circle. think about that puzzle where you have to draw a square with an X and a triangle without taking your pencil off the paper well it's like that but 5x worse! i absolutely hated both games i remember i never played the ds one all the way though it was that bad. good thing pirated both games and never wasted my money on either of them

I have yet to play the original game. We played the first two hours or so eight years ago. I'm sure it's a great game, but the thing that I remember most is how really, really bad the German translation was. As in, written by someone's nephew as a freelance job during summer break bad, spelling mistakes and all. Next time I'll try English.

Can't expect videogame chatbots, I mean reporters to know that.

Nowhere in the post does it say that this is the first sequel. Capcom refers to it as "Okami Sequel" and "Okami Sequel Project", not "second Okami sequel". It's really not that difficult to understand when you try.

I think Okamiden is considered more of a spin-off than a sequel anyway.

I played the Wii game a lot, and beat it at least 6 times while I was growing up. It was my favorite game to play.

I have Okamiden, but haven't finished the game. I made it to Sei'an City and stopped.

Will be interesting to see how this one develops. Hopefully it'll be more faithful to the original.

I need a refresher. What did Capcom do last year?
https://x.com/CapcomL10N/status/1778657301551038721

Capcom explained that localization of games is more than just a direct word to word translation, in that the content may be adapted to match the target audience's culture. This could include for example idioms, pop culture references, historical references, etc. but also the type of humor more generally and other cultural values - for example, Western localizations of the Professor Layton games treat Flora, who is underage, as an adopted daughter or ward of Layton, whereas is the Japanese games she is referred to as a future bride. Some people were mad about Capcom's statement because Cultural Sensitivity, Inclusive Language, and Representation are trigger words for them and they want their loli fantasies in puzzle games.

EDIT: Actually, probably they're referring to this:
