    1. Custom firmware let's you use/play homebrew and play .iso's... so yeah, I guess it let's you "play ROMs" like a DS.
    2. There's a bajillion threads that have already answered this. Check the stickies. You need a Pandora Battery and a Magic Memory Stick.
    3. Yes, you can play those on a CFW PSP.

By original do you mean when you buy it in stores? Or the first PSP1000 models can be modified??
For the first one no, you have to cfw it yourself, and for the second one psp phat and slim has the abiliy to be modified.

You need to buy a Pandora battery and put some files on an official Memory Stick.
That's for either phat or slim.
    Same work.

No PSP comes pre-loaded with custom firmware if you buy it from a store. The only way this would happen is if you buy it from someone on Ebay, GBAtemp, whatever, and that person tells you they have put custom firmware on the PSP.

They Slim and the "original" PSP, AKA. Phat PSP, are about the same difficulty to get to custom firmware. The process is the same for both, but each has their advantages and disadvantages once hacked. Personally, I prefer the Slim.

Well, I don't know everything off the top off my head... all I know is

    Slim:
-Is a LOT slimmer. At least to me... I've had both a Phat and a Slim, and I found it unbelievable when I was holding the Slim that it was so weightless. It's pretty comfortable compared to the Phat.
-It has extra RAM, which honestly is pretty useless, but it does allow you to use Skype, which is a chatting program.
-Some homebrew only works on Slims.

    Phat:
-Some homebrew only works on Phats, but the most popular homebrews have all been made compatible with the Slim anyway.

The only risk I see possible is bricking your PSP... in which case, if you already have your Pandora Battery and MMS, it won't matter. So... no, there is no risk. Nothing that can happen to your PSP is irreversible, other than damaging the thing itself. (Such as dropping it on the floor or whatever)
