    Overview

The Xbox 360 is a video game console produced by Microsoft, developed in cooperation with IBM, ATI, and SiS. Its Xbox Live service allows players to compete online and download arcade games and content such as game demos, trailers, TV shows, music videos, or rented movies. The Xbox 360 is the successor to the Xbox, and competes with Sony's PlayStation 3 and Nintendo's Wii as part of the seventh generation of gaming systems.

The Xbox 360 was officially unveiled on MTV on May 12, 2005, with detailed launch and game information divulged later that month at the Electronic Entertainment Expo. It is the first console to provide near-simultaneous launch across the three major regions, and to provide wireless controller support at launch. The console sold out completely at release (with the exception of Japan) and as of Q2 2007, shipped 11.6 million units worldwide. It is available in three versions.

    XBOX LIVE

XBOX Live is the XBOX's online platform. There are two subscriptions to the service, a free Silver subscription (included with all consoles) and the paid Gold subscription. If you wish to play XBOX games online with friends you will need a Gold subscription, however nearly all other features are available free under Silver. This includes buddy lists, messaging, downloadable content such as demos, patches, pics, themes and XBOX LIVE Arcade.

I'm really looking forward to the Call of Duty 4 Beta. It kicks off here in Australia on 11 September. I've signed up, hopefully I get a place. I hear a lot of the US people think the beta is great [IMG]

For any Aussie's that want to sign up click here but be quick, there are limited places.

Uni has just eased off a little so now I have more time for a bit of gaming. I'm currently playing through the GRAW2 campaign now that I've finished the brilliance that is Bioshock. I also borrowed R6 Vegas and Table Tennis off a friend so I'm having a little go of them too. Hit me up for a game of something if you like.

I've added you to the list.

I really hope the next dashboard update lets us organise our friends list into groups and clans. That'd make things so much easier. It's sometimes hard to remember who's who.

Awesome thread opie. I played COD4 at someones house, he managed to use some sort of glitch to download and play it.

I've put down my mate for the beta so hopefully he gets in so I can leech off his xbox goodness. I need a 360 so bad [IMG]

I've heard a rumor saying this stuff is included in the next update. Bungie didn't include clan options in halo 3 because they were relying on microsoft supporting it from the dashboard. So hopefully it's out around halo 3 time [IMG]

Core has no harddrive. Core has wired controller. Core is cheaper but after purchasing the accesories needed to match the premium, the price becomes HIGHER than the premium.

    Core: $279
    Premium: $349
    Elite: $449

Not unless you buy a memory card as well, which afterwards you may as well have got the premium. There much cheaper now anyway!

The premium also now has a HDMI port and comes with a dual composite/component cable and has a chrome DVD drive front.

If you buy a core, with the elite being out which has a 120gb harddrive. Microsoft are going to start selling the 120gb harddrives seperate sometime. What this might mean are 20gb harddrives being sold cheap on ebay.

Well theres nothing much you can do to stop that. I think its caused with overheating so try buying a cooling system.

The majority of RRoD are caused by the solder connecting the GPU and CPU to the mainboard cracking. On the latest models this isn't a problem due to new heatsinks and a better 65mm CPU which has more chips per wafer, which means lower energy requirements, lower heat output.

The new Premiums have an HDMI logo on the box (I think it's on the side). Apart from that I don't know of any other way to check without opening the box up. Otherwise it doesn't really matter unless you intend on immediately opening it up and modding it, because all 360's have 3 years warranty for the RRoD now. [IMG]
