Supercard MiniSD review

Thanks a lot to Vince989 for writing a nice review of the Supercard MiniSD version!
Click here to read the review and to find out the differences between the normal version (on the right part of the pic) and the miniSD version (on the left part).
I'd also like to thank personnally Kicktrading who supplied us with the kit.

Any US sites that carry it? Also what pricing? I was looking at the GBA EZFLASH IV MINI SD DEVKIT from jandaman until I spotted this review

Gah, I hate eBay

. Oh well, I may have to for this one... any seller you'd recommend? Also, is the minisd supercard the best one to go for, or is an M3 mini-sd better? What about the EZ Flash IV? I'd prefer the lower price, but can shell out if it's gonna get me a nicer product with better update/game support. Also finally, the passcard2, will it negate the need to do a flash forever with flashme, and act the same as having done that?

EDIT: Just looked at kicktrading, what is the passme I would need to do a flashme on my NDS (older-style one with the metroid hunters demo pack-in from awhile back)? Also, how does the CAD/USD conversion work, what they put in the cart in USD is what I will be charged, or does it depend on exchange rates etc. at time of order? Looks like they have what I want, and at good prices.

SuperCard Mini-SD is cheaper if you just want NDS support... GBA works on it but not as well as the M3... I don't have a passcard2 I just flashed my DS... But I got (well am getting once it arrives in the post) a Max Media Launcher for when I get my DS Lite

I am thinking I oughta just go the flashing route tho for the DS, so what card would I need to do the flash with? Thanks for all the help! Also, is that m3 mini-sd adapter good? I might go with that instead, debating on GBA stuff still. Will this bundle: http://www.kicktrading.ca/product_info.php?products_id=71 let me flash the DS with the flashme stuff, and then just use the mini-SD m3 part of it without that bulky passme thing?

Nice review Vince989.

I don't think I entirely understand the new GBA saving benefit though, do you not have to use the button combination to save now?

Yep, I've tested a few GBA games on it and didn't need any weird save patching or button combos to save, I just saved like I would with my normal cart and turned it off.

You can still use them, the new way also makes it so you don't depend on it. To go with my mentionned example, Gadget Racers and Road Trip - Shifting Gears were working slowly with the patch applied. Now, you can just put it there unpatched, even compressed if you want to, and the cart will still keep the save after you turn your handheld off, except you'll need to write the saver back on the miniSD card manually after.

Yep, exactly, but just make sure you write the saves back to the miniSD card if you don't want to lose them, as they'd be overwritten by the next game you load...

QUOTE(Temp-er @ May 14 2006, 10:40 PM)About time gbatemp did a unbiased review (lol, as if skining the patching software is important) of the supercard.
Just so you know, and even though I don't want to get deep in the subject, I don't think we've ever had any bias. We have our kits supplied by shops (except maybe once or twice where the companies sent them), and that might be the only bias we have. For the rest, it just depends on what the reviewer thought of the kit. We are NEVER paid by anyone for our reviews, if that can clear matters up; we only like to spread our opinions on the carts and GOOD information around...

EDIT : Also, if you look closely at the cart image up there, you can see the SRAM battery at the left, taking a good amount of the space inside the cart...

I really find it amazing how everything is TIGHT in there...

Fantastic review, Vince. I just got around to reading the whole thing, and as I said in the staff section you really seem to have gotten to the core of the product. This really seems like an excellent budget solution to some of the more expensive brands. But still, I long for the days when we see a flashcart that gets a 9.5-ish review. A near perfect flashcart. Anyways, once again, great review.
