Oculus releases unlocked OS for discontinued Oculus Go headset

Facebook has released an unlocked operating system for its Oculus Go headsets that allows users to run their own software on the device. This new OS stops the headset from signature-checking the boot.img, meaning users are free to replace that with whatever they wish, granting them unrestricted access to the headset. Of course, this also removes the necessity of using a Facebook or Oculus account with the device. However, the process is irreversible, and you will no longer receive over-the-air updates after you've unlocked the OS.

This move comes about a year after Facebook discontinued the Go line, and shut down app development last December. While there will still be firmware and security updates pushed to the Go until 2022, this unlocked OS should allow users to support the device indefinitely.

Oculus Connect doesn't necessarily mean new tech is being announced. Could be new features coming to the headset and/or some new groundbreaking software. Its mere speculation right now. The Quest 2 won't be going anywhere for a while. Also, IF any tech is announced it might have a high price tag that some might not find accessible. I feel that £300 for the 128gb Quest 2 is more than reasonable seeing as what you get for that.
Bruh. There was a leak that their WILL be a new quest that looks like ski goggles. Full AR color camera this time

Now we just need VR Pokémon fan games and similar games, and VR TCGs. Really anything light enough it'll run on the Go (which is better than just streaming to it IMO).

We had a massive VR pokemon fan game
...
It got C&D'd

The entire team behind it is now making their own thing that's very similar (the experience you're most likely looking for), but with their own designs instead. You can find the project here

Daft thing is, currently the 64gb and 128gb sell for the same price
The 64GB model has been discontinued, any remaining units are left-over stock. The storage has been doubled across both SKU’s without changing the MSRP during the Quest 2 recall when they had to swap the face shrouds due to the old ones containing some skin irritant in the rubber.

All these companies preach environmentalism till it hurts their bottom line lmao.
And mental health, where they release products that alienate you from REAL People, inseminating your skull with a IN YOUR FACE experience that potenciates alienation.

Keep buying that trash, boys and galls! THEY LOVE IT!

So they can wash their hands of them then, guess it makes no difference really anyway, all will be out of warranty

Surprising to see this happening, providing they don't remove anything

Isn't the Go just a gear vr with a slightly better one handed controller? Wonder what nice things will come out of this? I do hope they also update Gear VR to remove that check so that 3rd party apps don't need to be hacked in since that App is broken in later Android versions.

Oculus Go
2560×1440, 60Hz, 3DOF

It was effectively a VR p- movie viewer

But this root access allows you to apparently “install any apk you have”, so much potential

Someone will make a CFW for this All-Clueless headset and turned it into a dedicated VRporn machine.
That’s basically already what it was, you couldn’t do much else with it except the handful of party games

I can’t imagine there was a single person who got this that was serious about VR and didn’t try… that

Illinois is working to ban toxic food additives that have been banned for decades in other countries; additives that can be replaced and all those countries still have Skittles and Mountain Dew. Title of the piece: GUBMINT WANTS TO TAKE AWAY YOUR CANDY
